This customisable tail length, It's not gonna happen. The game simply doesn't have the code behind it for that to work. You get two body spritesheets, Male+Female. Then two for heads, Male+Female. All hair files ect only affect heads, not bodies.
You may possibly be able to get customiseable tail lengths, but you will be in the code way deeper than most (If not all) modders will be willing to go.
Your best bet would be to unpack the mod, change the tail length to what you feel is right, then pack it back up as a personal mod.
I'm sorry I have to deal out the bad news...
Mate. Mate. If they can set up the eye colors that corespond with the different furs, then they could link the tails with the hair types.
Just saying, I doubt it's "impossible"
Fur color and eye color are the same thing! Just different hexadecimal values. For example - 16130e is a hex code for brown, and 362cfb is a hex code for blue. Every color that changes on this race is chosen via hex codes.
The hex codes do not in any way alter the size or shape of the pre-created sprite sheet, but rather every color available.
Ever notice how the head color changes with the body color? If one could do that with hex codes, what makes you think they couldn't change the two extra hex codes for the eyes?
As far as linking the tails with hairstyles, there are three major reasons why that can't work.
1:Hairstyles only have ONE frame. In other words, your tail is going to stick out like a wooden board, never moving.
2:Hairstyles can be hidden. If you put on a human helmet, your tail would be outside the mask area and would be invisible.
3:Hairstyles are set to the head. If you ducked, your tail would fall through the ground. (Or stick out of your back the rest of the time.
And as far as "impossible," (Something I never said, though hinted at) if you can find one modder who thinks it IS viable, (If it is possible,) I will take everything back.
Don't give heck to someone who has experience (however lacking,) especially not when you yourself have none.
