My first suggestion that I'll put forth here for now is one you may have already considered before: Different ship types. As you probably know, the Golden Age of Piracy saw many different ship types in use. Barques, Brigs, Brigantines, Frigate,Schooner, Sloop, and Man of War are amongst the most notable. I think it would be an interesting contribution to the game, one that adds another level of strategy, to be able to choose which type of ship you use. Each type would handle differently, and would determine how many canons it has, how fast the can move, the ship's size and HP, etc. What type of ship a crew (uses) could be determined by the highest ranking player on a team at the start of a round. Gold could be used to purchase additional ships, so by the end of a round each team might have a small fleet, or a new team has become available for the next round because a team member unlocked the new team option with gold and bought it's first ship (which could act as one very large, expensive purchase).

Now I realize this is probably a high order on it's own (nevermind the fact that this is you first attempt at making a gamemode), and would more than likely require some research into the subject, but maybe it would make for a good long term goal! Either way, I thought I'd chip in my first two cents. Hope you find something you like in all that :)

This is actually on the map maker's side. The gamemode does not design the ships, it just spawns them. The gamemode can potentially support ships up to 9 masts.

I'm also not the best at map making, lol, which is why I do the programming.

I think a really cool feature would be if you were able to turn off water damage. It was a feature supposedly in PSW2 but it didnt actually work any of the times I tried it.

Turning off the water damage would be awesome because then I could more easily board enemy ships. I would still be vulnerable to their attacks while swimming and climbing the ladder though so I dont feel like it would be OP. Idk, I would just really love this feature

That option would, in theory, be trivial to add. I'll see if I can add it in the patch tonight

Nevermind, I just went through the code for one of the maps that you said supports your game mode and was easily able to disable water damage through the code. I assume it is just as easy on the other maps but just didn't realize this was a map-specific setting. Sorry for the inconvenience!

how about boarding? Like you can fire a grappling hook at the other ship and pull them together? maybe more weapons like halberds, axes/hatchets, and clubs?

I don't really think boarding would go that great.

but more weapons, such as axes, should be in the next update! Along with captains.

It would be cool if there was a map that had First Rate Ships of the Line, but then that would require a lot of people. If there aren't going to be any servers up for a while, my next suggestion for an addon would be creating functional bots to do the stuff that humans do.

I know for certain it was possible in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory because I played a bot mod for that game like 4 years ago, but unfortunately I don't remember what it was called. When I reinstalled it years ago I tried finding the bot mod I originally used, but couldn't find it.

I'd be up for a game of this if we could get enough people together. There's always people playing Galleons in Roblox, so why not this gamemode in GMod?
