what is the point of buying a ship

i really cant see he pont of buying a ship i upgraded the cargo hold and unit capacity of it but my cargo managment is still the same and my party limit is the same is it a bug or what please help

It mainly improves your map speed no matter the skill level. Comes with some additional skill improvements while you use that ship.
