Oberon Destrier - Alt helmet

Not a popular opinion, but I feel like this design is too sleek and modern; some thoughts on this design and others on the workshop.
I'm noticing a trend with the vast majority of workshop items and it's that a lot of the designs are heavily gravitating towards sleek, ultra-modern looks. While I certainly think the quality of the design for Destrier is top notch, I feel like it's aesthetic doesn't fit with the game very well, along with the other designs that are also modern-ish.

It can be argued that because of other accepted designs that this is no longer or should not be a concern, but I think otherwise. Warframes have generally had a very organic design that was a blend of sleek and organic looks to it. Excalibur's base helmet pretty much embodies that, being completely smooth by contrast without sharp edges and bits. Ember, Zephyr, and pretty much most frames before Mirage hold to those designs. Not only that, but this design is almost human in appearance; the curve and point above the dark metal "chin" resembles a nose, which kind of defeats the uncanny valley aesthetic that a lot of Warframes have as well. This just reminds me too much of a future "high tech" helmet (which again, reminds me of the other designs on the workshop). It's way too human and not alien enough in my opinion. Plus, all the sleek lines and lights don't really go with his body mesh either.

Less subjective, but I think the helmet could stand to have some additional width, either with additional horizontal planar additions or bulking up some of the side meshes. Easier said than done, but Oberon's original helmet had a great deal of either width or verticality; this has neither and doesn't fit well with the rest of Oberon's 3D mesh.

It looks pretty good, but it misses the mark on keeping with Warframe's design imo.

I appreciate the lengthy insight, but are you sure you made it based on a proper observation? For a starter this helmet was made to resemble a unicorn, a horse, the same way Oberon was made to resemble a Deer and a Goat. How it ended up looking too human for you made me questioning your credibility of observation.

Other than that pretty much everything you said is the direct opposite of what i would said to describe this helmet. I always strive for aesthethic compatibility, It's probably the reason why all the helmets i've submitted were accepted. I analyze the key design feature and try to replicate the aesthethics with relevant background as the base design while at the same time giving different design so players can experience more variety. DE even state within their guidelines that a too similar item is prone to rejection.

This helmet was made based on Unicorn helmet with a mix of knight helmet in relation to Oberon Deer Paladin theme. It's actually the least modern, least high tech and the most organic helmet i've made so far. The armor surface was made to look like the surface of oak tree just like Oberon's armor. So i really can't see how you can perceive this helmet a high tech helmet at all. And Oberon's width came from its Deer and goat's horns, something like that is not appicable when you're making something based on a unicorn.

You consider that majority of workshop items are not fitting for warframes, yet they got accepted and not through vote or anything but hand picked by the developers themselves. So has it occured to you that it's probably your own perception that doesn't fit warframe?

This post is why we can't have nice things.

I think it augments the style quite nicely.

People who make things like this make me wonder how Mynki keeps a job.

The only thing I can say that is constructive criticism (this looks fantastic, by the way) is that the head is a bit too narrow compared to the rest of Oberon, just a bit. Maybe you could widen it just a little bit? He isn't buff but he's not Nekros skinny either. Again, only thing I can say about it other than fan-friggin-tastic and I want this to be added asap.

Hmm... maybe where Chancer was coming from was in looking at the "Oberon Destrier" thumbnail, instead of the "Head Details" multi-view. The Destrier thumbnail looks MUCH more human proportioned than equine, which the Head Details pic clearly conveys. Regardless, a great-looking piece of work.

Please add more deatails to this helmet. I already like where the idea is going and I don't want it to get lost in the forgotten part of the steam workshop

I hate to break it to you but I'm pretty much positive they aren't hand picked by the developers themselves. That's a gross exageration of how the actual process works.

(Though I have been wrong before. So don't beat me down to hard master)

It's written in the FAQ though

How are submissions chosen?

Submissions are chosen by Digital Extremes based on quality and creativity. We will consider the popularity of skins as deemed by the Tenno, but we will be making the final call on what we add to the game.
