Modding a mod
Ok, not sure if this is a good place to put this or now, but my question is this. Where does it put the mod file so we can tweek with it and mod it more? Is that even possible, and would you allow such a thing? I know some coders and modders get protective.

I'll cut to the chase: no point in telling you where the files are since Steam packs them, and the unpacker included with the game can't unpack the files packed by Steam (only those packed by the packer included). The modder would need to have an unpacked version somewhere.
Most modders won't mind unless you upload the modified work without permission.

I'm just curious, cause there is a "mod" folder in the Starbound directory. You would think something would just show up there.

That's for manually installed mods.
Workshop mods are located in steamapps/workshop/content/211820/(mod id)

I found them. But I do not have the stuff to edit .pak files yet.

you need an unpacker
there is a forum for starbound and they have tons of ways to unpack them http://community.playstarbound.com/
then you gonna get the files and the rest of the code you can get by normal notepad
(but if you better get norepad++ beacuse it makes SOO much easier doing this)

Actually, everyone has an unpacker, and they can be used to unpack the Steam .pak files.

If you found the pak files, navigate to your Starbound folder, and then into the win32 directory. You should find asset_unpacker.exe, which you can use to unpack the mod.

Good luck! :)
