Ship stats
Great work, folks! This mod really is fantastic and I'm sure that with time it'll become most Trek fans' the absolute favorite. I can't thank you enough for doing all this.

That said, I wondered why the Intrepid is weaker than the Norway, for example. Likewise, the Defiant is weaker than the Sabre, or certainly than the Steamrunner. Doesn't that strike you as upside down?

Hi Stromgarde,

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the mod :D

For balancing we are using a ship's dimensions to calculate health, and we are using the information on Ex Astris Scienta to scale the ships for accuracy too.

That's great, Nathanius. However, the Defiant class is well established as a "tough little ship" known to rival the refitted Excelsior class (this was on one of the DS9 episodes where Sisko was chasing a changeling on Earth).

As far as the dimensions of the Intrepid class, is it really smaller than Norway class?

Far be it from me to tell you guys how to mod the game, but both the Defiant and the Intrepid class of ships ought to be a quite a bit more powerful than they are (and with that more expensive to build). Just my sentiments. :)

According to Ex Astris here's the ship sizes:

Defiant: 120m
Sabre: 223m
Intrepid: 344m
Norway: 355m

Balancing is never easy, just going off the ship stats alone isn't enough, the Defiant moves like a fighter, making it harder to hit, so each hit point on it goes further than those on the Sabre class for example.

The Intrepid is suffering from Voyager, that being a ship that has never been considered expendible in an episode. It's of the same pedigree as the Norway really but more heavily science focussed.

Fair enough. :)

What does the "missile volley" for the Defiant class do? A phaser pulse barrage?

Also, is there a way to record the game for later viewing enjoyment (like the Armada III mod)?
Nathanius  [developer] 5 Dec, 2017 @ 8:50pm
The missile volley is a not-yet-renamed torpedo barrage. Having torpedoes in volleys by default gathered a few complaints so we made it a special ability.

There's nothing in-game for recording a match, you need 3rd party software for that, and then it's just a video

Thanks, Nathanius. If you need any feedback, I'd be delighted to provide it.

Anything you think of, please! While we've got answers for some things there's other ideas out there that can inspire us too :)

Hi Nathanius,

I came across a couple of oddities in the mod:

1) When playing the Federation (TNG era), under the Research tab there's a "Dominion Alliance" that can be researched. Does that belong there?

2) The variety of the Federation outpost is states as "Kelper class". Wouldn't it be Kepler, the renowned astronomer?

3) A suggestion: would it be possible to instruct a capital ship to fire phasers and/or torpedoes in a specific dispersal pattern (e.g. pattern "Sierra", as ordered by Picard in "Yesterday's Enterprise")?

4) I've always wanted to to commandeer just one or two ships rather than a whole fleet/task force. Do you think it'd be possible to have a scenario that limits ship numbers further, below the "task force" number?

Cheers!

Hi there :)

Here's some answers for you mate.

1) It does belong there yes, but no races (except the Cardies perhaps?) will get access to a Dominion research option once the Dominion race is ready

2) I must have accidentally renamed the TNG outpost when we did the TOS one... good catch! I'll fix that :)

3) I couldn't begin to imagine how to implement this...

4) There's some ideas later for a campaign where you'd be mostly managing one ship but it's all just ideas at the moment. Homeworld is a fleet management game so the structure of it all doesn't lend itself very well to "hero ship" specific gameplay

Could operate similar to how the Hiigarian Torpedo Frigate works against small ships but I don't think it will give the desired effect.
