Great job on the ships and thanks for putting all this time and energy into this! Its beta and there will be changes just thought id let you guys know what I have seen so far as challenges go. Besides the Access Violation error that I had the first day that oddly dissapeared by itself I have not seen ANY other bugs, awsome work!

Hello!

Thank you for that, we've got a lot to do with balancing still yes, and the collectors dying on their own is a bug that will be squashed... I had thought that not using the default maps should be enough to stop them hitting the rocks, it's a shame that it's still a problem. Needs more testing... The trouble with doing a mod as a hobby is that work and real life always take your modding time away >_<

@STCR,
1. Is there a chance maps from HW2 classic could be included in a future update? I loved some of those maps.

2. Also would it be possible in a future update to have a larger zoom out ability when you are zoomed in on your fleet/not in the tactical map view?

Hi Rambo2525,

We aim to have better maps, in the end we don't want to be reusing too much of the HWRM content as it's a whole different art style to Star Trek. The HW maps are much smaller than the STC maps too, so we could possible reuse one or more as quick game maps?

How far out did you want to zoom? It can already go out quite a ways, I think this is now handled automatically by our random map generator anyway?

@Nathanius, I have uploaded some screenshots of a game I played. The pics should be public but if you have trouble seeing them please let me know. Pics labeled 1-4 are good pics. When the fleet streatches some of the ships go off screen and in all of the pics I am zoomed out as far as I can go. I have had others where the enemy fleet is as large as mine and after the fleets pass each other and go everywhere some of the enemy and my fleet go out of view. If the zoom out could go 1.5x current it would be cool. I am also focused on the entire fleet even when some of the ships go out of view.

You probably already know this but when I am chasing the Cardassian constructor it takes many shots to die even when the entire fleet is focusing on it lol. I found that setting all ships to aggressive kills it. So far I have only seen this with the Cardassians,

@STCR
Have you guys thought about including the armor tech that Voyager had in the last 2 episodes of Voyager as an upgrade or limited ability. Something like once the ships are built you can spend a crap load of RU's to slowly research that tech, maybe something in late game. Would this just be throwing the balance out the window:)
What about the transphasic torpedo?

@rambo2525: The armor might be good as a module for the Intrepid, like the modules you can build on Mirandas and Nebulas. Maybe it could reduce speed and maneuverablity in return for increasing protection. It could still be expensive and slow to complete, but could turn your light cruisers into mini tanks. There would probably need to be another module or two that you could choose from as well, though, so that the armor wouldn't be the automatic choice upon getting an Intrepid.

Transphasic torpedo: Aren't they already in the mod as a research requirement for the Steamrunner? Or are you referring to giving the Intrepid transphasic torps as well?

Crap I think your right. I was thinking of a torpedo that would take something like x3 or x4 load time but also be able to deal 5 times the damage. I was recalling how the tranphasic torpedo destroyed Borg vessels with one shot in the end of Voyeager, this sounds like it will destroy the balance pretty good so no go on that. It would be nice if it could be a special ability and researchable for the intrepid. In the end I was imagining an end game with Borg but failed to account all the other races XD. Yeah these ideas are kind of crap lol.

Being able to oneshot Borg sounds very OP, yeah. That being said, having the transphasic torpedoes as we know them in the mod now (on the Steamrunner) be a researchable upgrade or a module for the Intrepid sounds like a good idea. From a gameplay standpoint, I like being able to upgrade my ships, like with the modules on the Nebula-class, or the researchable upgrades for the Sovereign and Akira that give them extra torpedoes. I think that adds a nice extra level of gameplay, instead of just 'build ♥♥♥♥ and throw it at the enemy'.

I can see more of this as time goes on. This is such a cool aspect of this mod. There are other things that can be built by the space stations that I am looking forwards to. The Borg are going to be such a kick ass race to play with:)

I'm more looking forward to playing against the Borg, especially with friends. If they make the Borg ships similarly powerful to the way they are in the canon (like how in the Battle of Sector 001, a whole fleet was needed to stop one cube), I imagine it may take some teamwork to keep from getting overwhelmed by them. But then, I'm just speculating and hoping, and I shouldn't get carried away doing that. The devs will probably make the Borg similar to how they were in the original mod, and I don't know what they were like in the original mod.

If you have not played the original you got to get it, its fracking awesome! The invasion game mode is where you can fight them but its not like playing on a map from the start. You defend against ever increasing waves of ships, you can set which race you want to go against or even all of them. I always set it to Borg only and try to survive. That GBX update 2.2 will be pretty cool, hopefully it helps solve the problems the devs are facing currently.

@rambo2525: FYI, I screwed up the other day. The Steamrunner uses tricobalt torpedoes, not transphasic. Similar wording, different weaponry. :P

Looking back this could be OP considering it was one shot next target, maybe nerfed quite a bit and something that could be researched and then have it as a ability that takes time to recharge? It would be awesome but again I think you were right that it could be to OP. I could see this maybe as a Borg ability since they must be OP:)

@Nathanius Could you add the Borg and the Dominion? That would be a bigger Challenge! :D Hope you will add them <3 But love the mod anyway...

They are working on the Borg and the Dominion, just waiting on GBX for an update. Need a capture method that works in beam mode for assimilation. No word from GBX yet which sucks.
