I'm glad you're enjoying our work, it's just the beginning (the first real "monthly" update is still not yet out!).
While the Excelsior class was still in service in the TNG era it won't be appearing in that era until we begin experimenting with an improved Outpost game mode type. There's just too many Federation ships to warrant making them available everywhere all the time.
The Borg need some fundamental game changes from Gearbox before we will dive into them, but if they take too long we can still give them a try with what's available :)
The nature of a large fleet strategy game is that individual units are more expendible, but with proper balancing over time I think we'll capture some of that feel.
