(AUTHORS, PLEASE READ) Gems V2: The Continuation???
The authors have made it very hard for me to actually get into contact with them, so I'm going to give this one more shot.

Hello! I have plans to create an updated version for the gems race in Starbound. I tried to ask for your permission, but we're almost 9 months further, and I never got a reply.

I don't want to make your mod obsolete, so my goal is to only create an addon mod that makes minor changes (updated Era 3 lore, more skin/hair/gem colors and options, etc) to the current one and adds new content (furniture, gem colonies), rather than build a separate race mod from the ground up. This new mod will require yours to function.

However, that does mean I must look deeper into your mod's files and start messing with them to make sure they are compatible with each other. I sincerely hope you don't mind despite your silence, and if I still never hear from you, I will make the assumption that you are either unaware or okay with it. If you are not, please respond A.S.A.P and I will quit the project immediately.

To any potential volunteers eager to join me in my goal, I am in need of someone who knows Starbound's code, and can create extra content such as friendly/unfriendly ships, minidungeons, new planet types, and an outpost-like area so we can visit Homeworld. Artists are welcome too. I'm best at creating visuals, but my skill is pretty minor in coding and I only understand bare basics. However, I will look up tutorials if I must. Luckily, there are plenty of template mods and guides out there.

Oh man, this would be amazing. Sadly, I know nothing about coding and cannot help. Good luck!

The way it stands right now I've already started making progress on the visual stuff. Right now, there's a whopping 222 skin color variations, going from dark to light and from bright to muted. I'm still thinking about how to tackle combining gem/hair colors since there's no additional option available to separate them. I have a friend who knows his way around coding too and he's helping me out where needed. Although he hasn't worked with any Starbound mods himself, he's been helping me out by working on little programs that can make the workflow easier, such as picking hex color values and generating a string of code automatically from it, saving the time required to type it all down.

Sadly I have bad news too. I can't seem to work with the setup the old gems mod is using. It seems to be handling things somewhat differently from the template mod by Skittles that makes the most sense to me. From what I've found out, it was created from a different template mod, so there are parts in the code that look and function differently and I'm not familiar with.

I still want to make the new mod a dependency/addon to this one, but it seems that after the amount of time I've spent trying to make it work, and with no contact from the authors, it may be easier to start from the ground up and for it to become an independent mod. I hope they're OK with this.

I won't be touching the old mod further, and I'm not going to copy any assets from it.

It's in the backlog for the time being. I still have what I cobbled together so far but there's a bunch of other things I need to take care of first. Thanks for asking tho :)

I'm curious how you will play the situation with Pharitu (race from FU), because your project will surely be compatible with other mods.
