Cyberspace Sandbox [Outdated]

Disappointments and such
This is more of a review than a suggestion so please, hear me out.

This mod is what I like to call a No Man's Sky. It looks beautiful and with the right tools, it can run beautifully but when in practice, it is underwhelming and feels incomplete as a whole. Overall, the mod is more or less standard Terraria when in your regular cyberspace world. The missions are easy and take little effort to complete, even with bad armor. The rewards for progressing in the mission are beyond lacking and you would be better off selling weapons for money than doing the ONE mission that sits in the brain jack. As cool as it is, reminding me of the Matrix and giving me a nostalgia seizure, I have many complaints as far as the running of this mod. The one mission may be challenging for an early character without much armor, weapons or tech but once you get up to Durasteel, the challenge seems to almost completely vanish.

Unfortunately, this isn't something that really can be fixed. Starbound's level scaling only works for star systems rather than specific zones. I'd personally make this mod's custom currency either hold more value or maybe exchange it for weapons and resources! Maybe even add a small offshoot to Starbound's base story!

Overall, this mod does have a lot of potential, it really does. The original review was a bit harsh but in hindsight, I'd love to see this mod grow. It really could be the next best mod on the Steam Workshop if given that much more love.

dude, most mods are like early access, they are put on here but are still heavily under developement, for what this guy has done right now is alot, instead of whining like a lil ♥♥♥♥♥ and calling it like it is NMS (what it is not) you should show support, not negativity, the developer is not stupid and knows the mod is not complete yet, give it some time and it can become something great...

I gave an honest review. If the mod isnt playable, don't release it but instead, find people to beta test it. I gave my critizisms and frankly, your comment really isn't helping at all. So...unless I do get a comment that could maybe help out the creator, I really don't care about what you have to say. I hate being honest but it is a NMS. It promises a lot of cool things but fails to deliver on a single one (Aside from Cyberspace). I had both compliments and complaints. I urge you to READ my review before commenting in a way that makes you seem...below average IQ.

Am not sure if i am posting in right place but i have found a bug. In the game option menu when i changed zoom to 2x the background of cyber space looks kind a wierd.

I think the best way to test for bugs and such is to put it up publicly. You're not paying for it, so why are you devaluing this guy's work?
Billy 14 May, 2017 @ 10:56am
It's like going up to someone who's drawing on their sketchbook and pointing out every single flaw in it and say they're a terrible artist for it. It's their work not at your cost, and they're just doing what they like doing.
Faesong 14 May, 2017 @ 11:24am
If you release it out to the public, it is indeed going to face criticizm. I adore the concepts shown in the mod and I love the idea of a digitalized universe. However, it was implimented poorly. That's how critiques go. If you don't want your work critiqued, do not release it publicly. It's not really devaluing it whatsoever, I am not saying it isn't valuable as I cannot even say that. It was incomplete when I tested it, I really can't devalue an incomplete piece. And someone's sketchbook is generally private and people get pissed for looking through it. In your terms, this person showed off their art which consisted of a good base drawing but nothing on top of it. If they don't want to hear that it is incomplete, complete it or don't show it off.

Yeah and telling people to not try this mod for themselves or saying it's the equivalent of No Man's Sky is T O T A L L Y not making the creator either laugh at you or not feel motivated to continue this work. Instead of saying how much you hate the mod, why not ask for some stuff you believe would make this mod more interesting? In all honesty the better way to criticise someone is to tell them what you feel would make the mod better rather than just saying it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and that nobody should try it. Not everyhing should be expected to be a masterpiece, and comparing others to better works of art is only damaging self esteem, not helping in any way.

I'd also like to add how after your review no update has been made whatsoever.
Hmmmmm I wonder why....

*shrugs* I don't care about the feelings of someone. And yes, I do call it a no man's sky, not because the author LIED but because there are some brilliant ideas here that are used horribly. I did also say that IF IT DOESN'T CHANGE, go play with another mod. You convinently left that out and frankly, it's a huge flaw in your arguement. So let's continue; I actually didn't compare it to another mod, I did however say it reminded me of the Matrix and spoke of that bit in a positive light and I quote; "As cool as it is, reminding me of the Matrix and giving me a nostalgia seizure...". As for content to make it more interesting, fine, I'll humor you.

Add some storyline elements
Add actual items
Make use of your currency rather than have it sit there
Add more missions
ETC.

See there are so many issues with the given mod in terms of content that I really couldn't state all of it's issues without making a giant list and replaying this mod AGAIN to nitpick. What I just said is a very ♥♥♥♥ move.

So let's move on to them not updating the mod. Do you know the developer? No? Well then, we can't say my review was the one that made them stop updating and the sarcastic remark you made is beyond faulty in of itself. Tons of mods are abandoned projects here, this, the I want to drive/fly that Van mod, the UROS (brilliant spaceship mod) mods are all examples of abandoned mods on the Steam workshop. If the Dev jumped ship because I gave a very light critique of their mod then oh well, no one is really burdened by it in all honesty as someone will likely pick up on this idea later on. The point is, your arguement is faulty at best and I urge you to READ my review before debating about it.
Billy 14 May, 2017 @ 4:56pm
And abandoned mods are okay, what isn't is when people are treating them like they are horrid contraptions. I'm done talking here, you don't seem to wanna end the argument and understand what you did wrong, so what's the use if this is just gonna be an endless flamewar.
Besides, if you REALLY wanted this mod to excel, why not ask to help in making the mod? Help with spriting? Or even pick up the mod yourself if you think it should be continued?
I liked you adding what you wanted though, that was good. Just next time don't be so salty on a mod in a steam workshop forum, these people have their own lives, and they can damn well drop the mod (that they're not being payed for) if they so please.
Faesong 14 May, 2017 @ 5:04pm
I am not trying to argue at all. I understand I did not specify things and yes, that is on me. However, I do not feel that most of my critiques were too harsh. I cannot really code nor do I know anyone who can. I am just reviewing a mod and that's that.
Dust 1 Oct, 2017 @ 7:47pm
Dude, mods are not DLCs. If a mod adds something like, a pretty cool looking sword to your game, then it only adds a pretty looking sword, and if another mod adds a neat looking pocket dimension for storage room as well as a dumb mission as a small distraction, then it only adds that. It doesn't need to be a mega story pack with over 900 new items to be considered a complete mod, since "mod" just means modification, and does this modify the game to any extent? Yes, it does.

I agree with you, lo.

I think what you should do instead is to suggest cool additions. Trying to heavily critique someone who just got their first steps into coding would be like screaming at a child for being wobbly at their first steps. It discourages creativity and makes the other feel like they shouldn't even dabble into the art in the first place. I'm a really big nerd for criticism, and getting any is great, but even then, there's always times where you should be respectful of the other.
