Having just found a lost dino stuck in a tree top in a dense forest. I can say the crate finder works. But you do have to be aware of stasis! Dinos go to sleep and are not findable if you are out of stasis range. Mine showed up when someone flew within 200 meters of it. So you need to know the rough area and fly a grid to bring it out of stasis. Then use the find button with tribe dinos (or trackers if you have one fitted).
