Sometimes I think the players would prefer easier maps. What is your experience and which are a major goal in your maps? ...and I have no Idea how you manage to build such a lot of great maps almost at once ;-)
But yes, my first love is definitely doing what you describe (taking first an interesting real landscape and then making it fantasy with lots of interesting new features).
It's good to know that is what you like to do, and it is very exciting to see your beautiful map creations!
You're right that many players like maps that are easier, or very simple and flat so they can make as giant a city as possible. BUT, there are just as many players who *love* maps like yours, with all sorts of challenges. I like them too because I don't like making mega cities. So, I think you should do whatever you love most, because it makes for the best maps and the happiest players!
But I think this point of you is a very good one! People probably mostly only try to build biiiig concrete cities - but building nice onces, not so big but matching with the landscape, is probably even more fun! .... thanks for this idea! I am already having a new beautifull landcape in mind
...by the way.. I am looking for an asset (a pretty strange one but it would help me to build a map with an active! vulcano). Do you know how to creat a waste water source? it bust be undependent from any water supply/pipes. In best case, a water-source like for a lake - not producing clear water, but waste water. Any idea there I can find something like this?
When you have a water spawn inside a lake, then water will always go to the maximum level of the spawn. If you make it a full power spawn, it will be very powerful, so it won't matter how big your city is. It will work really hard to keep the water at the righ tlevel.
