When it worked properly they: spot zombie( based on react distance in script ,lets say 10), finish zombie off and then comeback to guarded zone. No weird dance.
This is ofc bug and it's not effective in any circumstances. But I imagine more advenced AI allowing to recognize single or small group of zombies and LARGE groups. Vs small groups survivors should finish off zombies and vs bigger ones use "hit and run"
Edit: This issue together with inaccessible survivors inventory brakes experience for me. They are just temporary meat shields. Even worse because I can't force them to wear armor or raincoat. From what people say it was possible to equip survivors with armors but due to changes in game code this does not work anymore right? Almost forgot about survivors vanishing, Force reload them cause permanent frame rate drop. I take them with me-they are going to die due to rain or zombie. I tell them to stay in base- they will vanish. :(
