A little lore for the roleplayers among us!
(A little Lore for those who really want to get into the role-playing spirit with this race!)

Attarra is a nation washed in jungles, cliffsides, lakes and rivers, Surrounded on all sides but the East by the ocean. The capitol, Port, lies on the South-by-Southeast coast, boasting a port that nearly dwarfs the city itself, thus its name.

Attitude:
"Nurture the land on which your children walk." is a slogan often recited by an Attarran.
They are avid botanists and seek more sustainable solutions for their power requirements and lifestyles. They don't like relying on something finite, now matter its vast quantity. However, reliance on non-renewable sources is necessary in many cases when your combustion engine requires oil to take food from the fields to the granaries. Attarra is a big country, after all.

"A wave is a wave, and storms will be." Attarrans love their slogans and proverbs. This one is their Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be. If a storm comes and levies break, so it is. Should a mountain crumble and war breaks out, so it is. Whatever comes their way, it's said one shouldn't focus on the fact that there's a problem-- that's already been established. What matters is what one does to solve it.
However, don't expect an Attarran to take any problem completely seriously. The water is rising and the sun is searing, so it's the perfect day for a swim. They will make light of just about anything, so a dash of dark humor lies on the tongue of every Attarran, slung when the tension gets too thick.

In the universe of Starbound, Attarrans are, usually, xenophiles, though due to a world war on their home planet, they have a disdain for draconic species.
Due to the same world war, Attarrans often get along better with avian and feline species.
When an Attarran makes a friend, most often, a party ensues, and a day on the town is had, getting to know their new compatriot.

Military:
With a chill temperament, however, their military is sure to suffer, right?
Not quite. Attarrans speak softly and carry a big stick, and hold the strongest navy on their planet, bolstered by the ports that line the coasts of their tropical home. With all the food Attarran farmers produce, Attarra is able to support millions, many of whom serve the military in some capacity, either in active duty, or in Attarra's police force, the Homeguard.
To suppliment their lacking air force in modern times, Attarra has allied itself with the Akahviehr (ah-kah-veer), their planet's version of the Avians. Despite the Akahviehr's shady dealings and questionable ethics, they find an exotic and colorful friend in their ally, and have taken well to the Avians found here in Starbound, fascinated by their culture and shiny colors.

Diet:
So I mentioned food! Able to support Attarra's vast, growing, hungry population, Attarran farmers have been cultivating the land in terraces and masterful crop rotations for thousands of years. With rice as its main export, Attarran food convoys have been called "The great white twine," referring to the white burlap sacks used to carry the starchy grain.
But rice isn't all an Attarran eats. Look to the seas and you'll see about 75% of the Attarran diet-- seafood of all kinds, supplied by fisheries, hard working anglers, harpooners, and the friendly tribes of Orushai (think fish people but actually cute) that stalk Attarran coasts.
Beware, however-- Attarrans can't metabolize alcohol, nor can they stomach spicier foods. While having a resistance to the poisons found in fish, fruits, and certain white meats, Attarrans don't do well with capsaicin or similar spicy compounds, so try not to poison your newfound Attarran friend with a nice curry, as delicious as it may be.

Living:
But where do they keep this food? What buildings are worthy for an Attarran to call their home or workplace? I've got two words. Elegantly cheap.
Attarrans live surprisingly bare. That's not to say their homes aren't cozy or their workplaces aren't safe, but it's best to travel light and stick to tasteful, simple living. The average Attarran home doesn't go far beyond a solid foundation, wooden siding, and a metal roof. Keep the place from molding or sinking into the ground, and an Attarran will happily call it home.
Keep the place presentable with some linen drapes and a fresh coat of paint, keep the floors swept and decorate with some nick-nacks or your sword collection.

Now, a house can be a home, and clothes make the man. Civilian clothing is equally simple in Attarra, though the military makes their clothing a little more complicated.
In civilian life, one will wear a simple short-sleeved kimono top, and short or pants, with wraps to cover the feet and hands. Fashionable Attarrans will wear a belt and sash, bandanna, or another accessory to keep things interesting.
The military, on the other hand, will wear more professional garb, with clothing more suited to rigorous activity. Boots made for Attarran feet, wide, high collars are in vogue, blouses (similar to the US BDU style uniform) are work regularly, and armor and gear webbing are a must. One makes his field kit his dress uniform, with most having attachments for more formal occasions, such as armbands, long-tailed bandannas (called "catalona"), and tricorn caps for officers and commanders.
Everything is designed for comfort and color. The simpler its worn, the easier it is to maintain, and thus the longer it'll last while looking oh-so snazzy.

Lineage and bloodlines:
Attarrans value history. They love folksongs and stories, legends and historical accounts pertaining to their people. Families carry a collection of family swords, with a central ancestral sword engraved with the ancient family tree which follows the line the sword was passed down to.
The firstborn Attarran son is given the whole collection by birthright. Of course, the swords are old and you may have more than one child, so each child has their own sword forged when they come of age, adorned with their name and a symbol to make note of their lineage.
Attarran last names are very hard to follow, so a sword is often held as an artifact to trace blood. While blood rights don't exist in Attarra, it's always good to know you come from a long family, and remembering history is a great way to learn from it.
In the event a sword-bearing child dies, he or she will be buried with their sword, and the collection will be passed on to the next-of-kin. Should it fail this, the swords will be buried with the last to carry them.
In the event a family only has daughters, the firstborn daughter carries the swords' birthrights, until a son is born.

Naming:
A first name usually comes from a regular English name, but some get more creative. Hector, Natalia, Reyland, Ryan, Calvin, Sonya, Terrance, and Julie to name a few. Lore-wise, Attarran names from from a collection of syllables that describe them at birth-
Hector, in this ancient naming style, was Heo-tor, which meant akin to a volcano.
Natalia came from Na-ta-lae, which described a summer day.
Mine, Civvy, comes from Si-vae, or morning fog.
Ryan comes from Ri-an, which means soggy ground.
If you're wondering what your name means, ask and I can tell you!
As for last names, Attarrans have two last names, usually pseudo-Japanese. The first of the names comes from their father's first last name (Paternal), and the second name comes from their mother's second last name (Maternal).
Take the name Hector Karuso-Haroshi. His father's paternal name was Karuso, and his mother's Maternal name was Haroshi. An Attarran child will change their name to adoptive parents, but always has the option to use their original name once they come of age.

Psionics:
Yes, super purple brain magic.
Attarrans have built a lot of their culture up around the lore and philosophy of psionics.
Nowa' days, Attarra sees two schools of thought in psionics- that is the clerical sect, and the sage sect.
While all psionic Attarrans are called "sages," and all are considered some kind of psionic schollar, the name sage colloquially refers to the sect that researches psionics and applies it to the psionic dimension. They are seen as mystics, watching psionic seasons and doing spooky things with charms and artifacts.
On the other side of the coin, the cleric is a "clerical sage," who focus on medicine, spiritual guidance, and a more scientific knowledge of psionics.
There is one sect of the sage that combines the best of both worlds, however. An ancient class known as the Stormbourne-- they were warrior scholars, and powerful psions, heading cities as leaders, teachers, researchers and all--around good men. Their order has fallen into oobscurity over thousands of years, but legends remain, and their image is still an inspiration and a role model to any Attarran.

Where might your character come from?:
This is Starbound- they come from wherever you want, and htey'll be whoever you want!
But if you want them to come from Attarra, and their home determines something about them, here are some ideas.

Attarra is home to a lot of beaches. If your Attarran is like a sea otter, they're likely from a beach, or somewhere near a large body of water. Sea Attarrans like to live in large groups, usually comprised of several large families and their friends.

If you want a more subtle, darker fur pattern, you might be from the mountains! Mountain Attarrans are hardy and brutish, moreso than their river counterparts. They are accustomed to the cold air and hard labor, and live in smaller, very tight-knit groups.

The river Attarrans are much more spread out, and make up most of the population. Their fur colors vary, but most have a variation of the "stripe" along their snoots. These Attarrans are more accustomed to a traditional family unit. One family, one house, a few friends and a local butcher you hang out with sometimes. They are best suited to jungle living, low-profile and enjoying the damp shade of the underbrush.

Are you from the dark recesses of the jungle, or prefer a more solitary lifestyle? You might be spotted! Spotted Attarrans have much darker fur, and splotchy fur around their chin, chest, abdomen, and extremities. They are quieter, and prefer a solitary lifestyle, acting more self-sufficiently. They enjoy the shade to a greater degree than a river Attarran might.

Any questions, just ask me below. This is a passion project of mine, and I love to share it!

I got a Question, Culturally, Who are the Attarans based on? Considering their clothing on the Concept art, I'd assume they're Japanese based like the Hylotl... But what's the official take on it?
(*Edit) Oh, And what do they favor for weapons? Balistic, Kinetic, Or Energy?

It's hard to explain-- I went for a sort of mix that's best expressed by actually seeing it-- but if this makes sense, It's a sort of pseudo-Japanese/American hybrid-- with just a touch of polynisian. The American dream and family values apply, as well as the industrial capacity. Of course, the terrain, materials available and die-hard nationalism stem from feudal Japan. The laid back composure and "Issa'll good" attitude are, obviously, from Hawaii (Wow, this has gotten really complicated.)
And as for weaponry, Attarrans have be known to make some pretty stoute assault rifles, but their specialties lie closer to swords and pikes. So Balistic, I suppose.

"Meet an Attarran by the sword, prepare to have your nation wiped off the planet like paper against a hurricane"
Edgier than shadow the hedgehog getting a papercut while in hot topic. Everything else about this race is good tho

I'll be totally transparent, Vietnam served as the base of Attarra's climate. Good eye ;3

When it comes to military service, is participation required by law, socially expected (i.e., still basically required) or is it voluntary?

It's voluntary. If you want to join up, join up! However, if there's no other work or you're usually considered a peaceable and level-headed individual, it's socially expected that you join the Homeguard, Attarra's version of the national guard, which acts as its whole police system.

According to the lore, the fur pattern of an Attaran can vary depending on where he/she was born, but when I downloaded this mod, I went to the character creator and there isn't any other fur patterns that you can choose besides the default one. Are you going to add different patterns to choose from? If you do add extra fur patterns in an update, I won't be demanding it, but it would be pretty cool if you made a fur pattern based on Dewott or Samurott from Pokemon.

That's the plan! And yeah, I'd love to have some Samurott/Dewott style armor-- here's hoping we don't get striked for it! But, alas, the mod is at a standstill. I guess everyone just got busy. If and when things come back to life, though, fur patterns are high on the list.

Can you predict what season should the next update roll by?
