MRE Mod [Build 39]
Misconception of the MRE
I always find it hilarious when people say that a MRE has a beverage inside.... its not a damn snack pack that you buy at the local grocery store. Yes it has powders and mixes for making water taste better and to give back electrolytes, but no, it does not have any water inside. The weight and space required to supply the recommended amount of water:salt for each MRE, which is already easily obtained in the field and at posts already, would just be a downright ludicrous amount of waste.

Also, there is a crap ton of salt and other electrolytes packed within each MRE, aside from the normal things like protein and carbohydrates and Sugar.. lots and lots of sugar.

If anything, I would like to see the MRE reflect more accurately just how much Sugar there is within each pack. There is a lot in a regular MRE.

Also, I feel like in addition to MRE's, there are 'Training' MRE's called TOTM (or Totems) which stand for 'Tailored Operational Training Meal'. These are what the military utilize for CONUS training. MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) are basically a larger cousin of the TOTM. Each have the same primary meals, secondary 'deserts' and beverage powders. However the TOTM has less of the fillers like crackers, raisins, nuts, and cranberries etc. Which ends up a good less 300-800 calories than its MRE counterpart.

Was wondering if you would ever add in some TOTM variants?

FYI, my favorite MRE/TOTM is the spaghetti with meatballs, and any of them which have Jalapeno Cheese spread, so damn good!

lol spaghetti with meatballs is my fav too!

Never heard of a TOTM, never used them when I was in. I can add them. Probably going to add it as another mod, simular to the MRE mode, but basically less calories, and different images..

The TOTM is used primarily in the National Guard, and Army during CONUS training. Some relate it to 'classroom' training but normally the TOTM is used in field exercises where Hot-A or some other source of at least 1 warm meal a day is provided. Less overall calories is the basic goal of the TOTM (to stop troopers from getting to fat during training).

cool, but i'd say there should be something to discuss too: happiness, because who, on the face of the earth, said that MREs are Good?! I also get why it lowers thirst now because of :steamsalty:

First, everything you eat requires water to digest. So eating in general will dehydrate you. Some water is recouperated from the food you ingest, but normally it is not enough to balance it out.

Second, some MRE's are actually very decent. Some are outright ♥♥♥♥. But that is just the main meal. Parts are bland, and some parts are delicious. I will take an MRE over Mc Donalds any day. I'm pretty sure its more nutritious anyhow.
