Total War Mod
How I beat the Soviets and then the Allies in Total War as Germany

Can reach Kiev through the use of Panzer divisions, but then the sheer number of Soviet divisions entering the winter of 1941, whilst trying to balance supply issues with the number of your own divisions and equipment shortages takes it's toll real fast and stops me in my tracks. Haven't found a way yet to make it work. I wonder if that's intentional.

So I did finally find a way to make it work. You pretty much need to find the sweet spot for literally everything.

I found that to be 96 24 width infantry divisions with a mix of medium and light artillery and Anti-tank was the best 120 was too much, lead to supply problems and equipment being drained. Disaster. 72 was too little, couldn't punch through very far, Soviets counter attacked. Also disaster.

Accompanied by 10 30 width Panzer divisions, with a mix of Light and medium tanks. Slowly phasing out the lights as the war goes on.

Fighting the air war is also very important. Always had enough fighters to counter theirs and prevent CAS/Strategic bombing. I used my own CAS whenever possible, but often

Pulled off some early encirclements within the first few months of Barbarossa, but then it became a long and gruelling slogging match that lasted all the way until 1948. German to Soviet casualties were roughly 2:1. But when casualties start mounting into the millions, manpower runs out, new conscription law, then have to reorder and fix the industry. All whilst trying to contain the Allies as long as possible. I actually lost North Africa due to Australia landing in Tripoli. Though came back when Vichy France got declared on. Fortified it hard. Allied landings in Southern France, Italy and Spain were constant. They had to be crushed quickly otherwise I would have been overwhelmed.

I eventually got a couple of 30 width Heavy tank divisions with siege guns and SP artillery and pushed towards Leningrad. The war in Finland turned into a stalemate. There were dozens of Soviet divisions in Finland that could get flanked from behind. Took Leningrad after being held up for 4 months by it's defenders. Flanked the Soviets in Finland. Encircled many divisions, and then the Soviets started to collapse from there. Sevastopol and Kerch were also an immense pain to take. It took even longer than Leningrad, I initially bypassed them and pushed into the Caucasus. But wanting to end the war quicker due to the Allies pushes in North Africa, I went back with my armoured divisions and slowly eroded the dozens of divisions they had stationed there and killed them off.

After that. I pushed into Iraq and the Middle East from Tabriz to relieve those in North Africa (Being surrounded in Algeria from Morocco and Tunisia directions). I got halfway through Libya before Algeria fell in 1947. I also poured into Upper Egypt and Sudan and brought Italian East Africa back on the map.

The Soviet front didn't need attention anymore. It didn't need armour, so I pulled that and an infantry army to fight in Africa. Retook Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Throughout the whole Africa campaign I found Italy to be utterly useless. Surprisingly Vichy France was my No.2. Spain was my No.3.

I invited Venezuela and Peru into the Axis and that tied down Brazil.

The armistice with the Soviets was signed in 1948. But the war wasn't over. I now needed to build my airforce and navy to prepare for invading Britain. I baited the UK airforce to fight in the channel and slowly wiped it out. 2 years later. The Soviets rejoined the war as they declared on my Ostland Reichskommissariat. This time they joined the Allies faction. Allied troops started pouring in from Arkhangelsk. Took another year and a half to kill them off.

Now I could 100% focus on Britain. Thousands of Naval bombers in the channel crippled the British and US fleets. I built a blue water navy, marines with amtracs/amphibious tanks and a new fully mechanised army of 24 divisions. I also built nukes (But forgot to use them/they weren't necessary). As the allies sent pretty much everything to Africa and South America, they had little in Britain. Landed in Dover. Poured in with the mechanised. A quick capture. Took Ireland too, formed the English Reichskommissariat. Island hopped from the Faroes, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland and landed in Quebec. Taking North America was easier than it appeared, mainly because their divisions were tied up elsewhere, again in Africa and South America. At no point did I have a major naval engagement with the Allied fleets. Even near the Americas.

Took out Brazil next, and then the slog towards South Africa, the last major. It was 1955 at this point and They hosted pretty much everybody else's exiled divisions. Sitting in Jungle and mountain tiles near Zambia.

At this point I had completely ran out of manpower at scraping the barrel. Most of my allies had ran out long ago. I thought the easiest way past Zambia would be through Mozambique, which means declaring war on Portugal. I did this. Halfway through Mozambique. Vichy France and my English Reichskommissariat both landed in Natal. We linked up, pushed to Pretoria and Cape Town. The Allies finally Surrendered.

I was considering to go all the way and invade Japan. But with a depleted manpower pool and another slog on the horizon vs a 700 ship navy. I decided sod that. Not every campaign needs to end in a world conquest.

WW2 ended on the 8th August 1957. Over 80 million people died.

This mod enhances the game so much. Very fun experience. gg.

Knowing when to stop while attacking is really important. You must anticipate when your supplies will start to run out.

I found that, initial assault with as many infantry divisions you can spare from other fronts and coast guard + all panzer divisions ( maybe a few in Africa) is best option. Then as supply starts to run out, start withdrawing infantry divisions to other fronts + coast guard.

Eventually there will be a point where withdrawing more divisions will put whole front at danger of losing to Soviet counter attacks. That point is where you must stop advancing and start defending.

Also don't attack in Winter. The winter modifiers makes attack very inefficient in terms of IC cost and manpower.
Especially manpower loss is very bad if you're after world conquest etc.

In winter stay defensive.
Use Panzers as "mobile reaction force" to smash attacks and if possible encircle attacking divisions by giving ground in selected places then attacking flanks (backhand blow tactic).

Use winter and other defensive times to prepare for next offensive. Prepare logistics, build railroads and (maybe) supply bases, airbases etc.
