At one point shortly before the big update the name seemed to reset every time I woke up/spawned in until I chose to use the custom name on one chest, then the custom name would appear for all the renamed chests (or I was tired and mentally erased the tedium of doing this for every chest); after the update it changed to not using the custom name at all just like you described. I just got back after a few days without power/net/cel from a storm front full of tree-felling microbursts so I thought it was just the barrage of updates after reconnecting. :)

I tried re-naming with a custom name then switching back. Also tried empying the chest and adding it back in. Nothing is working having around 100 chests is very frustrating.

They no longer auto name. You rename the vault in the radial menu, and then after its renamed use the "Use Custom Name" option in the radial menu and it will display whatever you named it on the front of the vault
