From what I read a lot of the taming doesn't work anymore however I haven't actually tested the mod in a long time. Mainly been playing with Primal Fear. This was definitely my favorite overhaul mod when I did play it though. I wish it was still updated because I prefer it to any of the other overhaul mods.

Thanks think I'll have to dive in at some point and try some taming to confirm. As you say I don't want to write it off because it's supposed to be awesome.

The only problem that Extinction Core actually has, is that the you can't tame alpha dinos with the new kibbles. And you can NOT get all of the old kibbles by killing Npc's. So the only thing you have to do is insatlling one of the kibble mods out there. I recommend using K+ Mod - this allowes you to ♥♥♥♥ the old kibbles with the old recipies. If you play the mod the way the creator wanted people to use it, there should not be any other gamebreaking bugs, only some small problems, wich have been discusssed multiple times and are not new, and i can't tell you all of them here at the moment. That means: Play on the island map as the mod is optimized for this map! Select a difficulty with wild level dinos betwen 120-150 max. wild lvl (some special ones spawn with higher/lower max lvls) to avoid creature balancing issues. if possible, do not use single player, rent a server, or host a local server on your pc to play. Playing it the first time, solo without any other mods or stat canges for wild/tames and other multipliers can feel insane and frustrating, but it's al doable solo, i played it 2 times this way to the end, but makes more fun with friends.

you can tame the Alphas with "xeno-kibble".

Yes, with ultra low effectivity. Xeno is the universal kibble for standard creatures. For alpha you can use golden kibble from the golden dodo as universal food, or insta-tame with a herbivore / carnivore treat if you own this stuff - because this is more for late mid-game and late-game. For the first alpha-tames, you normaly use their speciffic kibbles.
