FAQ + Bugs
How do l play as Boris?

Using Steam:
  • Subscribe
  • On the Civ 5 main menu, click MODS
  • Enable the mod called "Boris the Shashlik King of the Slavic Bloc"
  • Press Next
  • Select Boris as your leader in the game set up screen
NOTE: On the latest version, even if you download through Steam, you will still need to extract the mod ("Boris the Shashlik King of the Slavic Bloc (v2).civ5mod"). Do this by following the instructions below. lt should still show up in your mod folder, but if it doesn't, download it through the direct link

Using the links l uploaded:
  • Download the mod from the direct link (dropbox or google drive, they're the same)
  • Create a folder in Documents\MyGames\Sid Meiers Civilization 5\MODS called "Boris the Shashlik King of the Slavic Bloc" (you can call it whatever you want)
  • Move the *.civ5mod file you downloaded to that folder
  • Change the file extension to .zip
  • Extract the files to the folder that you created (USE 7ZIP!!! If you get extracting errors, it's because you're not using 7zip)
  • Enable the mod in-game just like when using Steam
  • Here's a video if this wasn't clear enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcGpELuHE4k

Here's a more detailed guide if you're having trouble:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=837165401

Why isn't the mod showing up after subbing?

That is because of one of two reasons:
  • You don't have the DLC
  • You didn't extract (USE 7ZIP RECCOMENDED)

How do l get STALKERS?

Build the Zone Wonder (you need Nuclear Fission). You still will not be able to purchase/produce them. Instead, they are randomly spawned (there's a 20% each turn that they will spawn)

l'm stuck on the archeological dig screen! Help!

lf this happens, then it's because there was some kind of terrain on the dig site (like a forest or jungle). Before you can build the dig, you need to clear this terrain.

Does this mod have multiplayer support?

Yes.

Will Boris make a video about this?

l really hope so! :gopnik:

l have a problem that isn't on this list! What now?

Write it down below and l'll do my best to help!

l have some gameplay ideas

Let me know :P

Can you please be more specific? After you extract the .civ5mod to a new folder in the civ 5 mod folder, does it show up in your mod list?
And is the steam download not working?

After i extract to the folder it gives me error messages saying that it could not extract the .xml files. It showed up for a spit second in my mod list on civ. Downloading through steam and manually does not work. I have no other mods. halp pls

The steam install doesn't show up for me. I have the BNW, G&K, Conquest of the New world Deluxe enabled,Mongolia, And the scrambled nations map pack. My Civ V version is 1.0.3.279. I never tried manually installing a CIV V mod before. I also tried deleting the mod database but that didn't do anything.

tl;dr: Game Version 1.0.3.279, BNW, GAK, CNW deluxe, Mongolia, Scramble nations, Deleting mod database did nothing, Never tried manual install.

1. When you extract, remember to change the file extension from .civ5mod to .zip

2. Do you have BNW and G&K?

The manual install is the answer, my friend. You shouldn't even need to download the file, because if you subbed then the Boris.civ5mod file should be in your MODS folder. You have to extract it like l explained above.

So i followed the directions from the video and the instructions on the bottom of the description, and it seems to not appear. After I extract it (with windows 7 because I couldn't wait to download something like winzip or 7zip), the 4 mod files are empty excluding a "BorisScene" XML document. So there was still Art, LUA,Sound and XML, but in those files were nothing, but the forementioned "boris scene".

So naturally I thought it would be something with the extractor because there were Tons of error messages. Of course this might not be the case because there might have been a screw up while downloading. And possibly (though I extremely dought any DLC I have atm would harm it) a DLC could have harmed it.

Though it seems mildly obvious, this mod is fairly new and it will have tons of bugs, I think it's highly plausible that I screwed up the extraction though. I only wanted for this to become another note on the front page that using the generic Microsoft extractor might not work. Just a wee bit of advice.

Thanks! it works now! Great mod, and make sure to follow a procudure like this if they have a similar problem:
1:Install manual mod
2:make a file
3:put the mod into the file
4:extract it there (preferably with 7zip)
5:Have fun.

It's pretty easy (and is esentially what you came up with first)
