That said, some of the Rimworld assets have always seemed somewhat lazy to me, especially compared to the painstakingly hand-drawn and beautifully-animated characters in Don't Starve. Given the sheer scale of Rimworld (and how tiny the development team is) it's hard to blame them for cutting corners, and I for one am glad it's in the graphics department, not gameplay or features. I think I'd rather add textures that look above average instead of worse than the default ones (and there's mods out there in both categories).
If I were good enough to make art from scratch, maybe I would (I actually did it for my other mod - not sure if the result is all that great given how much time I sank into it). If you can draw Rimworld-quality sprites and want to make a mod, send me the assets - I'll handle everything from defs to custom classes. For now I decided that using modified DS assets is a cost-effective (or rather, time-effective) way to provide some much-needed variety and content to the game. In the end, whether you like it is a matter of personal taste.
tl;dr someone suggested it, I thought it was a fun idea so I made it
...my three survivors just crashlanded on the exact planet that the Don´t starve narrative is situated on and I had no animals in there because this mod did not exist. Thank you, mod. Now I don´t have to starve *coughcough* on this peculiar planet. Whaddya know, universe is a huge place, man.
