Mesa Graxx

Air your grievances. (FAQ)
I guess ill take this chance to lay it out;

1.Mesas duster. This will enver be anything else then a duster. The shape is what the shape is

Even if you changed it to be fullmetal awesomeness-mega it would still have the disintct shape. It would just look like a really ♥♥♥♥ed up duster that someone for reasons unknown made into metal.

2. Trousers/Legs. Mesa is the only frame in the game who got actuall cloth folds modeled into her low poly. That means that unless her lower legs have a design that adheres to those folds and shapes it will look ♥♥♥♥. So for grineer. what do we got that could follow folds like that, Cloth and wires.

Making wired legs makes no damn sense to me. So cloth it is.
So we've established that the lower leg needs to be cloth at this point.
What do you do with the rest of the leg then? Metal?

Tell me when was the last time you saw a pair of good looking legs in any concept/game that are basically inverted shorts. Where the tighs are metal/whatever and the lower part is cloth? It would/looks like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thriftstore accident. I know because I tried this.

3. Chest. Once again Mesas wonderfull model comes into play. You see she have ver very distinct lines going from her tighs to her abdomen/neck. I *could* have made something horizontal accross her chest instead of vertical. But it would look less elegant, make her look fat around the waist and just break the flow in a bad way.

So this leaves us with detailing, and yes detailing can/will be improved. In the end this is not a "OMG mesa isnt wearing a duster and cloth anymore!skin". Its a "whats another way of intrepreting mesas cloth and duster clothes skin"

As for "pls just add more metal". I am not a fan of adding things for the sake of adding things. The previous graxx skins had alot of metal because I felt that was appropiate for the frame/shape/theme.

There are frames where i've added lots of metal even if it wasnt right for the frame or the shape,and that did not work out. *Looking at you nova*

Also please keep in mind that I've done 10+ graxx skins by now. It's not like I completley forgott they existed and decided on a whim not to have things like;

-Massive armor
-Squiggly lines
-Whatever grievance you have.

The design /shape language overall have been carefully considered to make for a good overall silhouette.

Regarding Camo/Warpaint:

Warframes have 4 tint areas.
In the screenshots you see them as this;

1. Red/Primary
2. Green/Secondary
3. Blue/teriiatry
4. Orange/ PBR Metal

Previous Graxx skins have had their camo color on blue. That meant for all those users who didnt like the camo they could just change that channel to be the same color as the primary channel and get rid of the patterning.

This worked because all those graxx skins where built on the same principle of heavily segmented metal armor. Then a layer of cloth under that. Since armor is more segmented then a piece of clothing (especially on someone like mesa who's wearing a bodysuit-ish shape) you can break your colors up without a giant sacrifice.

If you own a graxx skin you can see that the teritary color *only* affects your camo and small detail at best.

If I would approach Mesa with a similar approach it would mean one of 2 things;

Either Mesa would become solid colored if you use the same primary/teritary (or close to).

Or I would have to introduce a lot more non-tintatble areas (blacks) to break it up.

In this case I felt the current approach was the best one. It gave users more freedom with coloring whilst staying true to how grineer clothed units work (they really dont do camo pattern on fabrics)

/peace out.

Edit;We can not change the mesh. we can not "remove this, remove that". This is just glorified painting over.

I do appreciate you trying to make the skins different and Mesa in general has to be a ♥♥♥♥♥ to work on due to all of the abnormal cloth bits on the model, but I'm not the biggest fan. One it always feels strange to have eyes on anywarframe and that aspect. To be completely honest when i first saw it I thought it was mag. (Like the prime eye ring thing) Plus I think lorewise I'm pretty sure Mesa covers her eyes for competition. The ribbons on the back look pretty strange too. Just kinda like they lay there flat and do nothing. Overall I am just not a fan of the head. It might be neat to see what would happen if you took the traditional grineer look, as in there face is the only fleshy looking bit left, but cover it up. Maybe you could shatter the helm from the mouth up and wrap the face in bandages afterward.

Really just brainstorming do what you will but either way not a fan of the helmet. I do think the skin turns out alot better though.

can we have a 3d model of this? the pictures look nice, but a 3d model would let us look at her with a bit more detail (please do not take this the wrong way as no-one would think about that if i had said this for a excalibur skin)

i Really like this skin, but i can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia to starcraft 2 WOL Ghosts. My favorite unit. if you don't feel like it's grenier enough you could actually take some inspiration from them. But of course it will look somewhat clean so the grenier part is up to you =)

I think this skin is fantastic, theres a certain modern super hero mystique to it, and a few allsuions to deadshot, death stroke and maybe LoL's Lucio. I dont get the hating from people, Mesa is a gunsliner, a rogue, comparing it to the other more hardened militaristic (and heavily armored) graxx skins wouldnt do justice to the frames design or personality. If that is the big gripe people have over this skin then maybe Faven should drop the Graxx handle from it and use this as a launch point for a new line of more special opsy looking designs.

I see a lot of complaints here about it not looking Mesa-y enough, or it having too much of this or too much of that, or it not being blindfolded.

But I for one couldn't be happier with it!

I think skins are meant to allow the player to explore new and distinct looks, thematically free from the constraints of the conventional storyline. I've seen good and "meh" skins for Mesa from the utterly forgettable recolors, to that clever and cool Tenno-flesh cowboy hat. This is definitely good.

It, like the rest of the Graxx line, is completely distinct from the other types of skin available from Tenno-gen and the devs, and I think it offers a stylish (if not the only) alternative to the standard mechanical-fleshy look of Tenno/Orokin-built Warframes.

That, is why I like it!
