There is an in-game method for unlocking crafting recipes from other races, actually! For Aegi/Alliance recipes, the only requirement is that you have unlocked the vanilla mech and can access space encounters. Look around for Alliance or Trinkian spaceships (their icons are different from the vanilla one), and fly to the ship. You'll find a teleporter on board that takes you to the Creon Embassy, the Alliance outpost.
Once you're in the Creon Embassy, head to the right until you're in the large main hall. There's a scientist sitting at a table to the right of the Hotbröd stand, who will offer you a quest called "Alliance Crafting Techniques". Complete that quest, and you'll be rewarded with an Alliance Crafting Guide, which automatically unlocks dozens of Alliance-themed crafting recipes!
The Faryth that you have to hunt down for the quest can be found on forest, jungle and garden worlds. Hunt them down (preferably with a hunting weapon) and collect the materials they drop to complete the quest.
The Alliance Workshop is your basic crafting table for weapons, armour, tiles, furniture and some materials. The Stone Smelter is your furnace, and can be used to craft the basic crafting materials (such as Allosteel), and a few other things besides.
