Arrowsmith: Special Edition FAQ
This FAQ applies only to Arrowsmith: Special Edition for PC and XB1.
PC: https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/skyrim/mod-detail/3016722
XB1: https://mods.bethesda.net/#en/workshop/skyrim/mod-detail/3016781

I'm posting this here because Bethesda's site has a character limit on mod descriptions and no formatting code.

FAQ
Q: Why?
A: Arrowsmith was the first mod to add arrow crafting to the original game, less than a week after the original game's launch and way before Bethesda added it officially with the Dawnguard expansion. Even after Dawnguard's release, many players requested an updated version because they preferred Arrowsmith's balance. Arrowsmith's recipes and extra featues are the results of my personal preferences and feedback from the players.

Q: Will there be a PS4 version?
A: Not likely. This mod relies on scripts for several features, which aren't allowed on PS4. I'm looking at alternative solutions, but I'm not making any promises.

Q: How do I get fletchings?
A: Craft them at a tanning rack using 3 chicken feathers, 3 hawk feathers, 3 hagraven feathers, or 3 quills. Vendors that sell crafting materials, arrows, and animal parts also have a chance to have fletchings in their inventory.

Q: I don't see the fletchings option at the tanning rack.
A: You need at least one of the materials (feathers) for it to appear.
Reason: It's similar to leather in that there are multiple ways to make leather (different animal hides) so most of them are hidden unless you have one of the materials.

Q: How do I pluck chickens?
A: Simply walk up to a living chicken and "talk" to it. Chickens regrow feathers are a rate of one per day (in-game time).

Q: Nothing happens when I press the Use/Activate key on a living chicken.
A: There are several possible fixes:
Fix 1: Leave the area (fast travel) and come back. This will force the chicken(s) in the area to reload with the new plucking script attached to them. This mainly happens when you load a save that already had non-pluckable chickens loaded (eg. loaded it immediately after installing the mod).
Fix 2: Disable the mod. Load the save. Save again. Enable the mod. Load the last save. Then try Fix 1 again.
Fix 3: Disable other mods that also modify chickens or re-order the load order so that Arrowsmith takes priority. Any mod that modifies the EncChicken actor or ChickenRace race will conflict with Arrowsmith.

Q: I can't kill hawks. The arrows just stick to them.
A: This is a bug in the game that existed in the original game too. The Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch should fix this.
Reason: Hawks are moving objects rather than normal NPCs. The script disables them when they get hit, places a lootable "hawk" container at their location (which falls to the ground), then re-enables the moving object after 72 in-game hours to "respawn" them. For some reason the developers had this set to only happen once for each hawk. So when they respawned, nothing would happen when they got hit. If you tried to shoot them with arrows, the arrows would just stick to them and they would keep flying.

Q: Why do hawks disappear when I shoot them?
A: Your Object Fade/View Distance is too low. Turn it up in the launcher settings or the game settings. This is an issue with the game carried over from the original game.
Reason: Hawks are moving world objects rather than normal NPCs/actors. The game replaces the hawk with a lootable object (container) when you shoot it. If your object view distance is low, you won't be able to see the newly spawned object unless you are close to where it falls.

Q: I sided with the Vampires. How do I learn to craft crossbows and bolts?
A: If you haven't completed the quest Destroying the Dawnguard, do the side quests for the Vampires (ask them for work) until you get the quest. Then kill Sorine Jurard (required to complete the quest) and loot Sorine's Journal from her dead body.
If you completed the quest before enabling this mod then return to Fort Dawnguard and find Sorine's Journal on a shelf near the smelter and workbench.
Read Sorine's Journal to learn the recipes. You still need the Steel Smithing and Dwarven Smithing perks to craft the crossbows and bolts.

Q: Why doesn't my HUD's equipped arrow count update when I make new arrows?
A: This is a known bug. It's present in the base game too without the mod. However in Skyrim SE they did fix it slightly by making the arrow count correct itself when you fire an arrow.

Q: Can you remove the perk requirements?
A: No, I will not.

Q: Will you add _____ arrows?
A: I will not add arrows that aren't already in the game. Arrows that are already in the game, but are part of weapon types that aren't normally craftable (Forsworn, Falmer, etc) won't be added either. This mod is meant to fit the existing smithing design.

Q: It's called fletching / fletcher.
A: I know. The name is intentional.

Q: Will you upload this mod to Nexus?
A: No. I do not upload to the Nexus anymore.
