1. There's a chest with the four elemental runes that are “unpowered” located in the South Auditorium. Activate these runes and they will move to new individual spots across the map.

2. Locate the individual runes and shoot them to power them up. The location is randomized each game from what I can tell but you'll hear the sound of like a runecrafting altar when you get close to them. Here are some locations I've found so far:
-The water rune is in the small fountain with a tarp next to banana colada (South campus near south commons) or in the larger fountain in the courtyard with the whale.
-The earth rune can either be in a corner in the fountain courtyard near juggernog or next to the north entrance teleporter above some rocks and a tree stump.
-The air rune is in the north cafeteria floating above the glass doors near speed cola.
-The fire rune is floating in the basketball hoop in the North gym.

3. Once all four have been shot, return to the South Auditorium and activate the same chest with the four runes that are now "powered" to receive a Rune Scimitar.

The scimmy replaces an entire weapon slot but it has a longer range and quicker attack than the standard knife. It also acts as the knife slot even when holding a different weapon. It's a one-hit kill on normal zombies beyond round 20 and can be upgraded at the PAP to the Dragon Scimitar which has an even faster attack speed and longer range.

When you find all ruins multiple times but suddenly the fire rune is not at the basketball hoop for the first time and no one else knows where it can be...

*Puts on headphones and cranks up volume*

Edit: So the Fire rune can also be found on the tennis court, left side of the Fountain Courtyard and through the zombie window.
Also friendly word of advice, dont boost your audio from 6% to 100% just to hear the rune. The zombie hitting my shield almost gave me a heart attack.

Found another water spot, above the water foutains in North Lower Hallways.
Also found another fire spot on top of Dark, if it's not in the North or Tennis, check the South Gym, it should be on top floating on top of the hoop just like it would be in the North.

Thanks, I was looking for that water rune, coulnt find it on the 2 mentioned locations for a long time and didnt feel like searching.

Edit: Also the air rune can also be found floating over the big lockdown monitor at the start

If I switch the sword with a gun, will you still melee with it?
UPDATE: No, you can't.

Jut to add Fire Rune can also be floating in the basketball hoop in South Gym

And another location for the Earth Rune is in the South Lunch Area on the right of the big tree floating above a stump.

Air rune can also be floating in the window above where you get the blue canister from. Also, the dragon scimitar seems like it's a 1 hit knife until round 42 or 43.

Wind rune can be above the lock down starter in spawn
