Also - before you get too far into some WoT about how you were "let down" (too late), there is at least one guy in TS with a big Union Jack next to his name, right next to another union jack, on the other side of the words in English that says [Community Admin] .... That guy is me.
You shouldn't be afraid of poking a person with this title and asking if they have some time to help you.
Not to mention that people may not speak Russian but, lots of them speak English. Many of them would even take you out with them to show you so things if you tried to talk with them. Also there is a PDA in the server where you can message everyone else who has one... no the controls aren't spoon fed to you but that is one of the smaller reasons why I'm here.
You were very unprepared to play this mod, which is sad because you:
1) played alone without what seems like any prior understanding about the mod itself.
2) didn't know anyone who had played before, and didn't ask for help in TS or in the Handy PDA.
3) didn't go to our website and official forum where I and others write articles for English Speakers about WHAT this mod IS, the intention of the Public Test server, the Rules, the controls, even talking about some issues with it's design....
It's been a hobby of mine to share news and be a bit of a host for English Speakers who want to get acquainted with this Awesome Project and inspiring Role Play Community. I have many videos on my own youtube channel, even some demonstrations about mechanics like Radiation, how to use the PDA, basic gameplay tips - all with many tags that make them quite searchable on youtube - which - is where I guess you heard about the mod from? maybe not since you seem to have had zero idea what you were doing from the start.
Either way youtube is a very bad place to learn about our project anyway, I'll admit. Thanks largely to folks who care to know NOTHING at all about ArmStalker BEFORE talking about it over and over again. ... kinda like what happens here on Steam discussions.
Better to use Teamspeak and to talk to other players in this multiplayer video game you attempted to play.
If you want to play, give yourself an honest shot - or at least allow the mod it's dignity. The PVP server is FARR from perfect and there are problems, but it is not online at all in the hopes of being the next BIGGEST COOLEST BEST server in Arma. It is here as a place where the devs can drop a few fresh snippets of the Primary mod to let people play with.
The mod is a total conversion and our Team is very busy either developing the many pending systems, dynamics, and features of the mod, creating new models and porting others from Xray, developing the Role Play Test Server so that it serves our community of over 2k whitelisted players, and many of them are working hard on our very ambitious and interesting ArmStalker Chernobyl Zone terrain.
( Delete the spaces = goo.gl /photos /e6t5jytmFp5ZT11i8 ) ...
They simply don't have the time to make this server koosh for English speakers, neither do they have time to add all the bells and whistles to show new players why it's here, they barely have time to add anything to it at all, but they try for the sake of the players. One look around and you can see it's heavy WIP.
Finally - people in the English world shrug this mod off for many reasons, but one thing I see missed about this mod is that, our Team want to bring a QUALITY total conversion to Arma 3. They have hosted a closed access RP server for almost 2 years, and they have not been willing to share the files for people to host for ONE primary reason: That Arma 3 is FULL of mods that were played to DEATH prior to release of the finished product. Players had enough of the projects, there WAS no excitement building - only ebbing away after each update required wipes, cause unforeseen problems, and left players sidelined.
People DEMANDED this server. People wrote how they wanted to play without the whitelist, across the world, to see the mod for themselves without as little time invested in the process as possible. The Team are leaders of a Community - they Listen to the world as a part of working on the Project itself. They gave people what they could, and they STILL do, while they endure so many other problems such as false information, outright lies about their work, theft attempts from all over including Steam Workshop, DDOS attacks from angry server owners who want the mod released....
Now, yet one more passionate person ready to scribble their opinion here in Public about a project they know nothing about.
Go to the Forum and Read, better yet - go to the server and switch factions until you find someone to talk to. MAKE an Effort, and you will be rewarded.
If you don't - you will be yet one more of now hundreds of players from the Western World who feel that I or the Mod itself has let them down.
See you on the High Ground
There is no absolutly NO briefing or instructions or explanation about the what, why etc. ...
Not even that there actually is any somewhere in a forum (where should I know?).
As long there actually are people you could talk to... I mean everybody I tried talking to and yes, I talked to at least three guys only spoken russian or not even answered- very annoying if you even try to explain them that you can't understand them and they just going on speaking... so I just thought - well ♥♥♥♥ it you can't expect help from them do it alone maybe you can find out!
Im not russian and as I said the biggest part of the world isn't either and you have not to wonder about that only few none-russians go to the server because the most of people are not interested to deal with it as well!
It's not about russian it's just that you have to deal with a language you're not understand/ speak - what ever language it is (in this case it is russian and unfortunately most of time it is because it seems that most russians not speak english) and as sad as it is but english acctual is the universal language and if you don't like it than you should maybe only bring this mod in russian!
A complete translated mod and english as the main language - half/ half not will work - if you/ they have no time for it than let it people do who are interested in it and have the time or as I said stop releasing it for none-russians!
You/they began with it now complete it!
Sure I was and Im still unprepared because you get just thrown on the server like "here you are now see how you come along ..!., ".
I also asked in the steam forum but I got no answers/ reply so I was on my own - and yes Im a single person and I think it wouldn't help even if I had more irritated people around me!
And to join a russian TS I thought wouldn't be very helpfull as well - I was allready annoyed enough no need for more :/
You need at least some few informations or a tutorial - like "this key opens this and this does that" "your main mission is blablabla" etc. few sentences or just headwords I guess not needs 2min to get it done (serveroption/ briefing)... and maybe some translation for this strange kyrilic messages appearing the hole time... if it at least would be not kyrilic you could google it but with the gylphs or runes I just can't deal with.
Well... what you expect - bring out a mod and making people curious and than wondering if they're complaining and/ or sue about problems etc.?
I have no idea what today developer think... release half finished or not even partial finished games/ mods etc and than wondering because community is complaining about.
Well than do it like it should be: finish it and first than release it! If you release it before you had to expect complains like the player have to expect bugs and issues!
Let me explain with an example: If I would make a car and sell it (or give it away for free whatever) but there is just the half of the car working - the backside has no wheels for example or I would work in a restaurant and give the people half finished dishes I guess I could expect if people would complain as well maybe even would feel deceived :l ... I don't get the logic of this mindset...
If there would be few small bugs but I think Im right if I say there is much more than this and that's not my (main) problem here!
And Im not mad or angry about the current state don't get me wrong but I think there is a lot to do and Im wondering why it fails on such void reasons because of not excisiting instructions and so I want to draw attention to it. This reason is so easy to fix so don't let it fail on it!
