Restricting Monetized Servers a bit excessive?
Hey I understand you guys not wanting to use commersical use, but the '(monetized servers included)' may be a bit over excessive. Almost all dedicated servers have some monetary insentive, perks etc. (Not to make the server 'pay to play' per say but rather to help pay the server bills, staff, etc.)
It could be the achilles heel to having other servers host this mod due to the restrictiveness of that rule.

P.S. Worrying about 'Pay to Play' servers hosting this could be seen as unfounded as many players wouldn't play on servers with 'Pay to Win' aspects, rather they would play on servers that have fair monetary insentives.

Don't want to cause a ♥♥♥♥♥torm, just want to hear what everyone else thinks and have an open discussion about this topic.

It is their product, even while it´s one created by mind and digital data it´s basically their product. And if they want the product to be accessible for anyone they have to assure that no one charges money for a thing they created for the public. It is their right to demand for this.

Instead of monetized servers you could also just offer a donation system, without any perks or stuff like this. I´ve also hosted some servers and I never monetized them, just took in donations and the people actually donated quiet a lot once they noticed it´s worth it.

Just respect their will, they have reasons for this. That’s my opinion.

Keep in mind that we're doing it in our free time as an hobby. Hobby costs these days (tools license, servers and so on). With BI rules we can't make any profit out of it, which it's fine, but i don't understand why you (server owner) can monetize our contant to "sustain" the costs while we can't at all

I agree with Giallustio, cashing in on players on your servers with perks and bonuses is the cancer that is widespread in the community. I support their decision to deny any kind of monetization. They work they asses off and just because you host it, you earn the money?

I understand that and that is great! What I need to clarify is big servers. One idea is for this mod is to have a 100+ player server. That would be quite a risk as there would need to be programmers, mappers, and staff members, and no one would take that risk as they can't pay anyone due to the no monetization rule. I don't believe they could even rely on the "goodness of everyone's heart" (Donations without any incentives) because that can be seen as violating the no monetization rule still. While I do agree that hobbies do cost money nowadays, don't forget that some server hosters do make a profit hosting roleplay servers and other modes which allows them to make a living off of hosting. If they do make a profit then it allows formore updates to the server's gamemode, bigger staff, paying for the cost of the staff, programmers, server costs, and more. This is possible because they content is either self created or sanctioned by the developers of said content.
One way you could make money is by changing it to (Unless given permission) as that implies that someone could host a huge server and give you the creators a cut of the profits! (You can even get staff roles etc.) so that doesn't mean you can't make any money.

If BI rules state that having a monetized violates their TOS / EULA then I understand why you would have no monetizing of your creation.

So you're saying that you're making more money of the costs and you're actually earning money out of someone else work, don't you think?

I don't want to stat a dibate here, it's just how it is and it won't change. If you want to monetize your server, just use IFA3

Monetize servers = Toxic and stupid. Cant afford it, don't do it.

The only acceptable monetization practice is a big ass "Donation" button, otherwise you're selling skill/content. That's unacceptable.

People will try and do anything to wiggle their way and make money off of other peoples hard work. Ah. The "Joys" of Capitalism.

@Reaper
I've a server actually. I don't ask for "donations" of any sort and i'm happy to share it with my friends.

Wait so we aren't even allowed to accept donations?

What about YouTube? Non monetized videos okay? This mod looks like something my crew and I would enjoy. :)
Monetized videos fall under fair use. Which is why nobody is suicidal enough to take action against them.

In fact you could legally argue monetized servers do as well.
