How to fix your save after the recent update
So, some of you may have saves that no longer load after the update, you'll instead get an error that says your map can't load. Due to a mod conflict, some things had to be renamed, and now you've got objects in your save file using names that no longer exist. The fix is fairly simple. Just an edit to your save file. If you have Reinforced wooden walls in your colony, this fix isn't intended for that. Fixing that would take a while, and doesn't have the quicker solution below.

For those who know how to get to your AppData folder, go to AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios\Saves\ and open your save file in Notepad, then go to step 8. For those who don't know how to get to AppData, the full instructions are below.

1) Open Notepad or something similar. Please don't use Microsoft Word unless you want some extra complications.

2) Click File -> Open

3) Type %APPDATA% then hit Enter.

4) Click on AppData at the top of the window, or you can type .. and hit Enter again. It's literally just 2 periods. Either one will take you to the right place.

5) Open the folders LocalLow, then Ludeon Studios, then RimWorld by Ludeon Studios, then finally open Saves.

6) Change the file type (bottom right corner, it currently says Text Documents (*.txt)) to All Files (*.*)

7) Open your save file. It's usually the name of your faction followed by .rws

8) Press Ctrl + H, and in the window that pops up, type <def>SteelPlate in the first text box, and <def>DDA_SteelPlate in the second text box. Click Replace All.

10) Ctrl + H again. <id>SteelPlate in the first text box, then <id>DDA_SteelPlate in the second box. Click Replace All.

11) Save your changes. If you're worried about messing up, save it with a different name so that you still have the original file. Just make sure the save file ends with .rws when you save it.

If you want to keep your old save with the Reinforced Wooden walls, you'll need to find every instance of <def>ReinforcedWall</def>, look at the <stuff> tag, and delete the entire <thing></thing> block for anything that says it's made of wood. Alternatively, you can replace what ever is inside <stuff></stuff> with the name of another material that can be used to build reinforced walls. It's manual work, and tedious, but it can be done.

Does this work on Mac?
Be great if you could reply quickly!

Thank you!

Yes, it will work on mac. The structure of the game definition and save files doesn't change between platforms. It will also work on 'nix.

Hm...Alright, I did the fix, but I still can't load the save. Should I send you the error log so you can see where I messed up? Thank you!

Sure, but pastebin it please. It will keep the thread a little cleaner.

The first error basically says you have items that don't exist in the mod, or in the core game. That means you still have something that hasn't been renamed. Ctrl + F and search for SteelPlate, and see if there is anything that didn't get switched to DDA_SteelPlate. After that, search for ReinforcedWall, then look for the <stuff></stuff> tags and see what material each wall is made from. If any of it is made from wood, the whole <thing></thing> entry needs to be deleted.

Okay...now it's complaining that it couldn't load a reference to DDA_SteelPlate. Should I send you those error codes via pastebin?
Sorry this is such a pain. I really appreciate all the work that you've put into both this mod and into helping me out. Thanks!

I think you may have the mod disabled. Either that, or something got deleted that shouldn't have been. Can you pastebin the entire save file and let me see it?
