Hello just wanted to report whenever I try to use the 10k galaxy the game crashes. All other sizes worked. Tried with and without other mods. I have had previous mods where 10k+ stars worked fine so I am really at a loss as to what the issue might be. If you as the dev may know of the issue or any fixes please let me know I would highly appreciate it. Or if anyone else has come across this issue too and found a fix. Thank you!

Not sure to be honest. A few people have had issues with it (one person not being able to load above 1k, despite having a good system) but this mod doesn't make any unusual changes. I'll check the files again anyway just to be thorough, but the 10k galaxy in the pictures was generated with a relatively weak system.

Had a suggestion to make. Noticed the larger galaxies mostly just make stars cluster denser. Paired with global warp range reductions, decreased warp/hyperdrive speeds, border range reductions, and frontier/colony distance cost reworks, these galaxies would effectively be larger rather than denser.

Never modded so no idea whether these can all be properly modified, but if they could it would allow for a work-around on the map size limit.

Edit: Oh also, sensor ranges would need to be reduced as well as certain diplomatic modifiers based on distance. It might also be nice if this were paired with a graphical downscale of the size of stars.

They certainly can be modified as I've changed a few of those in my personal gameplay mod (random changes so not on the workshop), and in one released mod I've made the stars smaller on the galaxy map. The overall theme is solid and pairs well with this mod, so I'll get started on it this weekend. I'll also balance zoom levels and galaxy map icons around this, since on dense galaxies it can be a bit crowded. Great suggestion!

Nice! You're awesome!

Oh a few last thing I thought could be changed: number of curator spawns, number of titan spawns, and perhaps increases on other unique spawns. In some cases these might need to be duplicates.

Hi, I've been having two issues while playing on an 8k map. For one, if you meet another empire next to you, the border friction is crippling due to the size of the empires (I met someone and immediately got -150 relation from it.) I'm going to download another mod to fix that problem at least. Also, at least for me, when I zoom out none of the empires' logos show below their names.

Unfortunately the first is hard to balance given people will range of options for galaxy sizes and number of empires. I'm guessing the mod you're using simply lowers border friction (note that the game files are supposed to max it at -100!), but you could have someone playing a 5,000 star galaxy with 20 empires, or a 2000 star galaxy with 60 empires, and the average empire size (and corresponding border friction) would be completely different in each game. Assuming your neighbour was a similar ethos and otherwise liked you, it's a bit silly that the game works this way.

For the second, are you using another one of my mods? This mod does not remove empire emblems, but another one of my mods - "Clean Space" - does, and if so I have an addon linked in that modded description that enables the emblems.

Was wondering if you had made progress on what I suggested? I tried dabbling with these settings myself but failed pretty miserably :o

I've been playing around with the changes, just deciding what sort of scale is best for a release. I enjoyed far smaller borders and FTL at 1/10th the speed, but that might be a bit drastic.

I've been playing a game with this mod, and I have a few suggestions I'd like to put forward. As was stated earlier, additional stars only seems to add density, not size, which is nice in moderation, but even at the 3k that i'm playing with, the stars are practically on top of each other, making it very difficult to tell which icons belong with which stars. There also seems to be a greater disparity in distance from the plane for stars, causing stars that are very low to often disappear behind stars that are very high. I don't know if any of this is fixable, but if it's possible to actually increase the size of the galaxy, separately from the density, that would be excellent.

Also, I'm having similar issues to bravo, where the logos are not visible, though it seems to only be for logos close to the core. I've noticed that as I've expanded away from the core and the center of my empire shifts, the logo has become progressively more visible. I think the issue there might be with your core dim mod accidentally 'dimming' the logos as well, though I could be wrong.

Unfortunately the maps are as large as the game currently allows. I have another mod called 'Clean Space' that makes the map 2d and stops icons from appearing at medium zooms (so icons don't overpopulate the screen). I also have another mod I'm working on that slows travel speed and border size, effectively making the map larger.

As for the empire emblem, this mod doesn't do anything to affect them (although the mod 'Clean Space' I mentioned above does). Dim Core doesn't affect it either. Pretty sure the emblem will only show up if the territory is large enough to display it, but I'm guessing that's not the issue you're experiencing.
Stupid Waldo 1 Jun, 2017 @ 10:10am
Yeah, the emblems are often partially visible, with visibility increasing with distance from the core. My empire currently goes from just outside of the core into the outer arms, and the emblem is about 2/3s visible. All the emblems fade as they approach the core, with empires in the core not having visible emblems at all, and empires in the outer arms having very visible emblems. I didn't have this problem with vanilla, and your core dim mod is the only graphical modification I currently have installed, so I don't think anything else would be the cause of it.

The Dim Core mod doesn't make any change that does this. Can you take a pic? I'm guessing that either the brightness of the core overpowers the white emblems, or maybe there's something in the game that causes the emblems to not show on such a bright background. I do know that neither this mod nor Dim Core make changes to emblems, but that isn't to say the game engine doesn't do something funky on its own.
