MetroPed: modular metro stations with pedestrian tunnel access

Either I'm an idiot, or something is wrong... ped tunnel access points?
About 100 hours in I subscribe to MOM, mostly to have elevated track over the river (because the tunnels were messing up the water flow!), and since I had to rebuild stations anyway after extensive flooding destroyed the originals.
Nothing but trouble!

1) The pedestrian tunnels don't show up in game. I tried loading it in asset editor, and they are there, exactly where they are in the pictures (plus the little pink invisible pathways). But when I build it in game, they are gone. I tried using a new map/game, with no mods other than MOM and dependencies, and plopped down a modular metro ped station, and there is just a station, no tunnels sticking out. So no matter where I try to run ped tunnels, there is nothing for them to connect to, and no one uses them (except sometimes to cross the street when I have entrances on both side connected to each other)

At least at many stations, cims seem to be teleporting in or floating in through adjacent buildings or directly through the ground. So the stops are being used, which is a great improvement, but it would be nice if they actually used the modular entrances and behaved like they were made of properly corporeal matter.

2) https://ibb.co/c595XS
I figured this one out, although I still don't get why it happens. Sometimes when I first run the line through a station it automatically selects one track, and then when I try to add a stop there, it assumes I want the other track. So (usually) if I hold SHIFT, it will place the stop. Sometimes it still doesn't work, but then deleting and rebuilding the station fixes it.

3) What is the difference between "side platform" and "island platform"? It seems like no one else has that question, for a very popular mod, so maybe I'm just stupid... Is there any tutorial on the mod and/or its default assets anywhere?
I mean, I understand the difference between them IRL, in terms of station design, but what, if any, difference does it make in the game mechanics or aesthetics?

For 3 center platforms makes sense at terminus stops becasue in real life a train would go to either empty track (I wish you could choose terminus stops for that to happen in game). I also noticed in my hometown round tunnels sections are dug by tunnel bore machines and stations in those sections are center platform because the station is dug out from one tunnel to the other. Square tunnels are cut and cover (digging a large ditch from the ground) and in my hometown those sections usually have side platforms. In game it makes no difference but I use center platforms for terminus stations or if I pretend that tunnel section is round (dug by TBMs).
