Hi,

thank you for this mod. But I have a suggestion.

You say that the bird will require food each day. That would make exploration and long travels to gather materials virtually impossible... You take a trip to gather some wool and you come back to find a dead bird? Or, you could get killed somehow and respawn the next day in a Touch Stone that is far away from the bird, and by the time you get back it will be too late.

Would you please consider giving it the ability to either go look for food by itself (like a pig) or require no food to survive (like a caged bird)?

Hi JG,

Thanks for your suggestion, this was something I was thinking about for the DST version of the mod. Since if you play on a dedicated, persistent server your birds might starve while you are offline.

I should put this in the mod description, but the mod already does some of what you suggested. Tame Tallbirds will break rank and forage for food on their own when their hunger gets below 50% and then return to their guard post.

Also, this won't be as much of an issue as you think. The base configuration gives them enough hunger to survive for 4 in-game days without food. (This is configurable between 1-6 days) This should give you plenty of time to explore or recover from a death.

However, as you suggested and I pointed out in relation to DST, I am planning to add a 'no food required' configuration option. Would anyone else appreciate such an option?

Thank you for the quick reply, I appreciated it :)

One more question. Is there a way to make sure they have a full stomach? Besides giving them a whole bunch of food that I might not have to spare, I mean. I'm assuming that the 4 days safety net only works if they have a full hunger meter before I leave them. If I feed them a berry, how can I know if they are 100% or just 60%?

Right now there isn't an easy way to tell the hunger percentage very accurately. The 'examine' speech string will change when the birds is below 50% hunger, but that might not be granular enough.

Also I alloed the bird to always accept food (even when full) because that's how you get the bird to follow you. (Otherwise you would have to wait for it to be hungry to feed it)

Hmm I'll have to think about a clearer way to determine the birds' hunger.

Hey JG,

I've added an update with most of the things you were asking for. I've added more "Examine" strings based on hunger, so you should get a different string when the bird's hunger is at 0%, 50%, and 90%. This should give you enough information about the bird's status.

Also I've added a "No Food Required" option (select 'None' under Food Consmption), if you feel inclined to use it. Cheers

Thank you :D

Hi ya!

Will this mod work with the X-Box controller? I'm too lazy to play with the keyboard. :3
Keidence  [developer] 4 Jun, 2017 @ 7:25pm
@Glitter Bat: I... have no idea. And I don't think I have a way to test it. As far as I know, the default input controls should work with controller support. If you want to test it please report back!
Glitter Bat 4 Jun, 2017 @ 8:08pm
OK! I'm going to give it a try tonight and see how it goes. :3 I hope it works.

Hi, thank you for mod, i have a suggestion here,
tooth trap kills your smallbird and tallbird. this can cause a problem if you aren't careful like me :)
can you solve this?
Thank you again for your interest.
Keidence  [developer] 17 Jul, 2017 @ 3:02pm
Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I'll review how tooth traps interact with other pets. But this is a good sugestion.
I have 2 suggestions:
1. Can you make an option to pet your small, teen, & tame tall bird to show affection to to the birds? Personally I love tallbird s& would like to show them some love.
2. Could you make a tallbird whistle (teenbirds primarily)to de aggro them when they face powerful or a horde of mobs? I find it Annoying when they aggro to powerful or hordes of mobs.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Meowzilla69

Thanks for your suggesions:

1. Oh my god that is so cute. Sooooo cuuuute. That's such a good idea, I'll definitely add that to the mod soon. <3
2. This one might be a little harder. Part of the original challenge of raising Tallbirds was that while the teen was following you you couldn't spend your time hunting really. And adding a whole new item (including art, crafting recipe, etc) is a bit too much for this feature. An alternative is to let you command the bird to follow you (much the way you tell it to stay now), causing it to break off it's attack and follow you. This should let you retreat from a fight you can't win.

Thanks again.
Another 3 suggestions I have:
1. Tame tallbirds can help you chop down trees , rocks & bushes(shipwrecked) i on command. Similar to p if with loyalty.
2. Small, teen & tame tallbirds will remember you, for example if you're in RoG & you go yo a shipwrecked, & you go back they don't remember you, so it would be nice for a feature when you go back to the world, at the sight of you, they will re follow you & you can feed them without putting them down. In shipwrecked the same thing happens when type get on the boat.I traveled into a cave in shipwrecked because a small bird got trapped in the water, it's a bug, spawned in cave in order to fix it. But instead took me to the regular don't starve game. I got back & my birds didn't remember me, so I had to put them down.
3. In shipwrecked, small, teen, & tame tallbirds can travel with you. It would be nice exploring shipwrecked with your feathered companion.

@Meowzilla69 Sorry for the very long delay. I released another version today with one of your suggestions (Retreat command). I still love your idea for a affection command, I'm working on it now but it's not ready yet.

I do not think I will make tallbirds chop down trees. They can't even hold an axe!

I'm also looking into work arounds for your suggestions for Shipwrecked. The main problem is that the Seaworthy by default will not transfer any followers with you (even Abigail). Adult birds will handle transitioning back and forth just fine, but you are correct that small and teen birds forget about you. I'll look into a way to make that work.

As for letting tallbirds ride boats with you, that's going to be a tough one. Webber has a similar issue with his spiders being landlocked in SW. I'll try but it's very unlikely I can.

Thanks for your feedback
