Reefs Not Spawning + Their Respective Luxury Resources
Hi,

Long story short, reefs aren't spawning on my map. I am playing with Sukritact's Oceans, Truly Abundant Resources, and Luxury Resource Variety, the "reveal all" feature allows me to utilize the search menu to determine whether it works. I've tried reinstalling mods, disabling my other mods, changing options, map size, basically everything. To be clear the "No Reefs" option isn't enabled either. So this has to be a bug since corals and turtles aren't appearing anywhere on the map (even an archipelago). Perhaps could you create a script in which more reefs could be generated? I've experimented with many map settings etc, so I'm really not sure what's going on, I could send you the normal map settings I use? This map mod is awesome but still would love to see corals and turtles on the map. By the way this is on the latest version. Anything I could do? Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. I was able to spawn reefs with those mods enabled, but for some reason turtles and possibly other water luxuries aren't spawning. I'll see if I can fix this.

Note that reefs are limited to a certain latitude so they might not spawn on cold maps.

Update: I just rolled a small Archipelago (globe wrap, most settings set to standard) with all three of those mods enabled and found 46 reefs, 8 turtles, and 5 coral in addition to plenty of kelp and lobsters.

The reefs might have been filtered out by latitude if you were playing a snowball or ice age map.

The turtles and coral were few in number and didn't spawn for a few of my small maps, so perhaps you just had bad luck with luxuries. Sometimes even with Luxury Resource Variety enabled, you won't get every luxury despite the map script *attempting* to place all luxuries.

One other thing: if you're playing with World Wrap = Region (that is, no east-west wrap) then Got Lakes reduces reefs to about roughly 1/8 of the normal spawn rate so that on a standard size you're limited to at most 17 reefs. That might explain the lack of reefs in some of your maps.

This mitigated a mysterious crash-on-reveal-all bug that I encountered when R&F first released. Not sure if that bug ever went away because it was hard to reproduce, so the reef reduction "fix" remains just to be safe.

Thank you for the response, I did some experimenting today and you were correct. Reefs wouldn't spawn on the "Ice Age" climate, which alternated the world wrap. Today i managed to spawn with some turtles and corals but to an extremely scare amount (like 4-5 each on Truly Abundant Resources) on a continents map and seven seas. So we both faced similar issues.

Playing on huge maps is quite a typical thing I would do, so the map size shouldn't effect the spawn rate of the reefs. I'm not too sure about this however the resource mods assumingly prioritize spawning land based luxuries, before reef ones. However the only solution at this point would be to increase the amount of reefs via the setup screen.

In the base game however, there seem to be an even more abundant source of turtles, around 40-50 on a huge map. Maybe the map generation script on Got Lakes simply isn't prioritizing reefs, I reckon the solution is to increase the spawn-rate for reefs + their respective resources for the next update. I appreciate your time and effort to investigate this issue, many thanks.

You could also try editing the lua yourself to increase reef spawn rate. The relevant sections in a steam install of GL v33.0 should be at <steam library dir>\steamapps\workshop\content\289070\916614621\GotLakes_FeatureGen.lua lines 67-71 and 441-446. Not sure if the folder numbers will be the same on your machine, but the first one is Civ VI and the second one is Got Lakes on my machine (I think they're content IDs).

Note that if you're playing MP then everyone will need to have the same hack on their own machine to avoid descync issues.

WOW. increasing the values in the script and lead me to having approximately 150 reefs on a huge map. Respectively 40 turtles and 34 corals, everything seems to be working as intended. Thank you for your help, very much appreciated! Keep up the great work!

You're welcome @ravenhawk1. Glad that worked.
