Dark Souls: The Board Game

House Rule Concept: New Game+
The minute we finished our first full session of mini-boss & main-boss, I couldn't help but ponder the idea of further expanding beyond that playthrough by having the ability to do another session of mini-boss & main-boss via New Game+. The idea is, like in the real Dark Souls, you'd go through the same dungeons, only with the difficulty modified somehow; for variation sakes, I'd just allow your party to take on a new mini-boss & main-boss.

I'd have to play-test some balance, but I think that would be a fun way of challenging your party to take things to the next level with your established characters. Maybe something along the lines of granting enemies an extra stat increase, like +1 damage & +1 to all resistances, including bosses.

If that idea felt right, you could just turn that into +2 during NG++, etc.

Thoughts? If anything, it gives you an excuse to enjoy that shiny loot you get from the main-boss!

Just finished my first game (it was solo because I have no friends), and I love the idea of a NG+ system. It definitely pays homage to the video games. I can help you balance and such, although I'm not exactly an experienced DS:TBG player (or experienced in anything like D&D either)

I'm in like 6 campaigns at the moment, so I intend to run NG+ in experiment and see what comes out of it. Will report back~

I tried a solo game with this and it felt very powerful. It was definitely an increase in challenge, almost to the point of impossible as a solo player. This difficulty mostly came with the added resistances. I think the rule should somehow be dynamic based on the number of people in the party. I also think instead of increasing resistances, the enemy's health should be increased, once again probably dynamic with the size of the party.

Sorry, been busy.

Our group doesn't play anymore since we want to wait for future expansions, but we have played a handful of runs with NG+ and it works, so long as you're prepared for potential spike moments in damage. Give it a shot!

What you're describing sounds similar to the campaign mode in the back of the book.
