Let me start with a simple one:(alert: non-native English speaker detected, possible grammatical issue detected):
When I first met Directory of Peers, they didn't really pay much attention to me at all. Their speaker, when introducing their history to me, seemed distracted and bored. Flapping wings randomly, the butterfly told me that he really wants to focus on his current experiment rather than keep doing diplomatic activity.
"Cute," I thought, observing all those little drones busily working right next to the speaker: no nation can even attract me more than a group of shy, adorable butterflies concentrating on their project.
My empire, on the other hand, considered Directory of Peers a great subject to be assimilated and join us together with the Creator. "Observation confirmed, Trakpion and Ztrakpor have 98.7% same gene with exact appearance. Merging them together will create 53.4 advance points in our current technology stage." explained Caretaker, the leader of Tronzaru Nucleus to me.
They are scared to us, however. When the speaker of Trakpions realized that Ztrakpor, butterflies that look similar to themselves, lost their own thought when being assimilated by Tronzaru Machines, they instantly shut down the connection and ordered all fleet to the highest alert:"we will not join you! We love technology and research does not mean we will allow our beautiful bodies and amazing thoughts to be modified into mindless cyborg species like Ztrakpor!"
I was fine with that, deciding to ignore them and focus on inner product. Dozens of years of peace has passed. In 2152.10.3, however, after analyzing the fact that we are surrounded by three Fallen Empires from three different directions, my Empire has successfully persuaded me that in order to expand, conquering and annexing the neighboring Directory of Peers shall be 100% beneficial to Tronzaru .
The war began. Although frightened, Trakpions has displayed great courage, screaming at us in desperation of never submitting their thought even if their fleet is inferior in comparison to ours. The war ended in 3 years, fast and smooth. Our troops and fleets destroyed every defenses they have, and land on their capital without any mercy, proclaiming the new age of Tronzaru Nucleus.
"Why? What did we ever do to you? All we wanted was to be left alone to experiment in peace... We did not deserve this!"
I saw the speaker one last time at his lab. The butterfly struggled so hard, so fiercely that my robotic soldier has to do an intense bondage to prevent him from rampaging and killing me.
"And now......No! Hey, you! Do not disturb my circles!"
My sector governor has confirmed that the best way to utilize the original capital of Directory of Peers is to replace it with mineral deposit. The lab is destroyed, together with all the equipment and data. For a machine empire, many inventions were considered useless and pathetic, not even worth to conserve at any degree.
Can butterfly cry? I don't think so, arthropoid does not have lacrimal gland that allows them to shed tears. I swear, however, I swear to the most material materialist that he cries, with liquid falling from his millions of compound eyes to the ground while witnessing everything he once possess was gone. The butterfly cried so loud, so desperate that even the sunny weather on the planet had turned gloomy, causing a massive hurricane across the landscape.
Do they deserve this? I question myself again and again. Do those shy, peaceful butterfly deserves everything they have gotten? "Don't worry, Machine Intelligence." said Caretaker to me: "Trakpions love science. By joining us, they shall be ensured to 100% dedicate to what they love without worrying about anything at all. Organics are weak, we are here to assimilate and protect them, not to wastefully exterminate them."
But perhaps, what butterflies chase through the science, is their ultimate combination between mechanical body and free thought?
I will never know the answer, for all Trakpions had been assimilated within 6 years and busily worked on technology research since then. I will always remember, however, that one butterfly who was found dead one day before sending to assimilation factory, leaving a note written in his own blood, which is about the final algorithm of how to create a robot that will never rebel.

Thank you, that was a great story! Poor Trakpion :') they only wanted to science, but I'm sure they're better off as part of the great collective. ;)
