Sequel requests and suggestions
The current [1.11] release was simply something you could play from start to finish without it breaking, and I rushed to get it done within the HackerJAM timeframe. I'm not looking to drastically alter the core missions or plot, but I am by no means finished updating Ad Astra, and if you have a suggestion please whack it on here.

I don't know if this is possible but you could make a third branch end mission where an anonymus user joins the IRC says that he requests your co-operation(or whatever, you can alter that part a bit.)When you check the hub,the third mission is there and it is private which means the admins don't know about it(you can check the B.R.A.P comments,I'm pretty sure the effect where it's like a proxy/firewall is mentioned there.)When you accept it,he asks you to :1.Take down RASA 2.Brick the computers of all of your colleages 3.Crash the governments of the world. This will obviously be very difficult.Somewhere in there you might make it where you have to crash a bunch of planes. In the end, they say that they dug through everything related to the members and they find the Credits Server made for you. This is where you can guilt trip the player for betraying their beloved coleages and the entire world. You can even make a sequel after this ending!

I'll be honest, I specifically avoided adding the "taking out your former teammates" ending to the story, as it seems that every single extension does it these days. I wanted to maintain a sense of friendship between the characters to the end. That being said, there were other options that I would have liked to explore, but didn't have time to. As far as government toppling goes, that was something I certainly considered as an alternate story line entirely, as I reckoned if I added another 30 computers right after the LRN puzzle section, people might start to feel that the game was dragging on too much.

I am considering doing a sequel to this extension, and have the framework of a story in the works at the moment. It will cover a different section of the story, from a different perspective to our usual suspects. What would really help me is if you guys basically tell me which puzzles (or segments) you enjoyed (or didn't) in this extension, and anything you'd like more of in a sequel. This is mainly so that I can get a feel for what works and what doesn't gameplay-wise.

The story telling style, and world structure, for the sequel will be (in theory) pretty unlike anything out at the moment, and I hope to get greater depth to the universe as a whole this way. It won't affect the gameplay itself, but should instead frame it in a more interesting way.

I was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of positive reception I got, and for that I only have you lot to thank. I've never actually carried a project from concept to release before, and it's given me the confidence to build something a little more ambitious. It may be a while before I can begin to work on this project, but I thought I'd begin to get some input now. Thanks in advance!

OK you deleted my comment before (:P) so I'll post here as well.

I really enjoyed the clock.exe search, especially the python script - very much out of the box! More of that sort of thing in the future. Overall lack of handholding is a great thing - everything you need is there, no need to specifically say "oh remember to scan/memdump/eos you dummy!". Also, no tracekill increases tension, I liked that.

Overall - riddles are awesome! I love when instead of simply putting the IP/password out there you give us clues what it might be.

Anyway - well done and good luck with the next one - hope it will be even better!

Sorry about the delete thing, I accidentally hit it while on my phone (steam mobile is... not great).
I'm definitely looking to do more puzzles based around code analysis and other more unusual challenges (or at least unusual by hacknet standards), so I'm glad that worked.

I have an idea, some programs don't need a proxy to be down to work. You could do a few computers with unbreakable proxys and either sql, torrentbit or rtsp on it.You can have someone in the IRC ask about it and someone else says something like'I remember that some programs don't need the proxy to be down, but I can't remember which ones they are.'

I was fooling around with the game and made a custom satellite icon that replaces the PacificAir icon you could probably use. I uploaded it to #file_drop of the Hacknet_Extensions Discord.

Unfortunately because of how it works, you can't package the icon with the extension, and have to install it manually. Just putting this out.

Awesome! I'll check it out at some point.

My suggestions would be fewer machines, but more variety. Having to run opshell and the same port crushers every single time just starts to feel like a grind. I understand you didn't have the luxury of time, but all these runarounds just feel like padding. I'm determined to finish playing through, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't losing interest in it.

I'd recommend mixing it up a bit with the ports. There was one bit it was just SSH, FTP, and SMTP or Torrent...over and over over. It made sense for the satellites to have RTSP/SSH/FTP, so that didn't bother me. But having a bunch of people in a row running FTP, SSH, mail/torrent is eh, imo.

But otherwise, great extension. One of my favourites (and I've played about 10 extensions, so far).
