Announcement - What would a perfect City 17 RP map have?
Hey everyone,

I obviously haven't mapped a lot in recent times, or at least for Garry's Mod. I've been working on singleplayer maps for Half-Life 2 for the last couple years, trying to put together a mod. That's where my mapping focus has been all this time.

However, last year I had thought about making a City 17 RP map. In fact, at the time I've done a lot of progress on one, but had abandon due to engine limitations.

My question is, what should a perfect roleplay map have? What features would you like to see in one?

I would take inspiration from rp_industrial17. Having things like a central "Citadel" like building, themed buildings that'd make for good shops, out of the way areas perfect for rebels, such of the like. I think that map is the perfect basis to go off for a City 17 Rp map

if it's a map that takes place during the uprising like your other maps, it should have many cars, debris, weapons and bodies scattered trough the streets and buildings

I'm glad you're still around! I think a good c17 rp map would have a good amount of like, underground or side-routes around nominally controlled combine checkpoints and all. So the rebel or refugee side of things has a chance to thrive as well.

Depends on if you want it to be boring regular hl2rp where you have to be a citizen and it's hard to figure out and you're not allowed to have a silly name or ask for help, or if you want something like a fun player generated goofy half life game.
For the normal hl2rp thing, get a bunch of rooms and stuff and maybe a little bit of underground.
For goofy player generated hl2, do something like gm_bigcity but Half-Life themed, maybe get a whole bunch of areas in a map that barely fits in the source engine's bounds, and a very interactive map.

I know nothing about modding and my advice is awful.

you gotta include some secluded courtyards (like the ones in d1_trainstation_02 or in d3_c17_04)

personally, i'd love something like your city 17 maps but on like, a larger scale. not asking for gm_fork or gm_bigcity levels of big of course, that sounds like it'd be torture to make. I'd love to have a large uprising map with big streets for striders to walk around in.

If what i am asking for is impossible, or if you just don't wanna do it, i fully understand, cause i have not heard allot of nice things about the hammer editor.

to be fair, i have never even played on a server, so i don't really know what would make a good RP map.
