How exactly does the faction system work?

I don't understand, faction members have a liberty desire towards the faction leader? Do they act like vassals? I'm a bit confused

oh sory i havent seen your comment cause ive didnt recived any notification about your post.
faction members are independent like state they can preform all action which normal state can do but are protected by the faction leader and they will join wars of faction leader.
