I bought Call of Duty: World at War thinking it’d be a fun WWII shooter.
What I got instead was a full-time job throwing grenades back at people like I’m in some kind of explosive tennis match.

Campaign starts off like:
“Welcome soldier.”
And then immediately:

Everything is on fire

Everyone is screaming

You’re being introduced to trauma

The enemy AI doesn’t fight you…
they just yeet infinite grenades until you question reality.

At one point I spent so long throwing grenades back that I forgot I even had a gun.

Meanwhile, I’m yelling at my screen:
“WHO IS SUPPLYING YOU WITH THIS MANY GRENADES???”

My friends asked me to come hang out.
I said I couldn’t.
I was busy crawling through mud while a man named Sergeant Reznov screamed motivational poetry at me.

Zombies mode?
Oh cool, a side mode—
NOPE. Now I’m trapped in a building with my friends at 2AM arguing about who didn’t rebuild the barricade.

Final verdict:
I came for a history lesson.
I left with trust issues and a fear of beeping noises.

This game is the definition of a masterpiece.

It's so intense and action-packed. I loved the countless explosions, cool destructive events, and the atmosphere. The graphics are quite beautiful for 2008, and the writing was perfect. The characters are my favorite. They have unique personalities to them. They aren't just named NPCs who just fight.

The ending was beautiful. I encountered zero bugs, and there is a decent roster of weapons to choose from.

However, whenever you shoot a mounted weapon or ride on a tank, the screen shakes like crazy. You can't see ♥♥♥♥, and my head was hurting.

Still though, it's a masterpiece. Highly recommended.
