I agree with OP, This game would be perfect for me if you could build castle walls around it, military, warlords, it would be the perfect all-round 3D game and if you don't want it they can just build a new mode. One with and one without it.
LOL Valheim sucks so much it has over 50 million copies sold. So, go play it. But I bet it's too hard and unrelentingly tough for you. It was for me after a few thousand hours. MD has its own niche. Let it live there peacefully. There are even new games on the horizon that go there. The perfect game does not exist.
I'm not confident that combat AI would be convincing, though, and that would be just as, if not more immersion breaking.
