You could have crisis scenarios; diseases that need extra medication; bad harvests, bandit raids, drafting the men of your village to fight in war reducing workers for some time,...
There are so many of these that already exist in other 'city building' games. And yes eventually you will come to a point where you say i am done with this village. The thing that stood out for me in MD is that it took zero challenge to reach that point. Just time. And the main reason is the lack of impacting events.
And i did play with extra hp on bandits, extra food requirements, etc the development is still too stable.
It made practical sense to keep the village in one place while developing and unlocking stuff, while you are at this point, have a look at small specialised areas all over the map.... Hunting camp (all about hunting).... Sheep farm, with a tailor (dynasty, 1 or 2 family owned).... Cheese factory...... Mead distillery..... Just some ideas to keep you busy....
