I'm not usually one to buy a game (horror especially) that I've watched someone else play online, even if it really intrigues me, but this was the exception. I have probably watched at least 10 different people's playthroughs of this game, but still had to try it for myself. And let me tell you, it is just as fun if not more when you are in the driver's (or Maya's) seat.

First of all, I love that I can actually play this game on my basic laptop, and playing it feels great. The entire concept of this game and the mechanics are so refreshing due to its simplicity, and I love that as the game progresses, no other mechanics are really introduced. It makes the end section where you rescue your friends feel like the culminating, big test at the end of a class, rather than a new, stressful lesson that leaves you stumped and frustrated.

I also love that our horror antagonist, Jimmy "Hugo Punch" Hall, is just a "regular" guy who chases Maya around the hotel trying to bonk her over the head with his bat. Antagonists like Jimmy who feel like they could exist in the real world and especially the situation of hiding in an empty hotel from a threatening man is more terrifying to me than some other kinds of horror villains and fantastical scenarios which you would never find in real life, so for me, the choice to make him just a guy added to the genuine fear I felt playing this game.

Overall, I would put this game at the top of my horror game list, or just video game list in general, and I am beyond excited for the next game in this series to come out soon, especially if it keeps the grounded, simplistic, and realistic elements from this first game. Wonderful game!
