I wanted to like this game. Even among the Gundam series I have watched, Gundam SEED is one of my favorites, simply for its sheer number of Mobile Suits and the fights that occur. This game does have a lot of Mobile Suits and pilots from the show that look quite canonically accurate. Mobile Suits with unique abilities do largely function as one would expect. In short, this game is a remastered PS Vita game that failed to fix the original's unacceptable numerous problems.

However, I cannot recommend this game at this time as it has some serious issues. If you get hit, your ability to heal is based on a pilot ability that not all pilots have and said ability lacks any manual activation. The game does not provide any healing items whatsoever. Not as items placed in the levels, nor as an item carried by your Mobile Suit.

The game uses an extra lives system it calls Redeploys. Quite frankly, it sucks and does not make sense. A very boring mass production Mobile Suit might have up to 6 redeploys, while a high end Gundam has 1. Upgrading your Mobile Suit through Tuning can improve it significantly, at the cost of lowering your maximum number of redeploys. The loss of redeploys relative to performance upgrades does not seem close to fair at all. They should have given every Mobile Suit 6 redeploys regardless of what it is or how tuned up it is. Also, your wingman and allied Mobile Suits have Redeploys as well, however, their respawn rate is very slow and they are often of laughably little help anyways.

Some missions have a continuing phase where you will fight on a different map. The enemies get their Mobile Suits fully repaired and resupplied. You and your allies do NOT receive any such benefits. That is completely unfair.

Another major complaint is the aiming system. You can use a lock-on targeting system, an auto-targeting system, and a few weapons have a degree of manual aiming. They all have problems. The few weapons that do have manual aiming are slow, ponderous, and do not allow for precision twitch aiming, nor can your Mobile Suit turning around while aiming, apparently. The auto-targeting system was not used by me. The lock-on targeting system is just a headache. This system can lock on ammo supply crates far away from the current skirmish and that you aren't even looking at. Switching locked-on targets is a huge pain at best. Even when your are locked onto an intended target, your shots frequently miss. You can use guided missiles, or beam rifles that have predictive aiming or multi-lock functions and still miss your targets. Also, it is very easy to run out of ammo for several weapons in a level due to the low ammo reserve in your Mobile Suit and the few, if any ammo resupply crates. When you're using a weapon with a multi-lock capability, it may put several locks on your intended target, or place multiple locks on targets far away from your intended target or even on targets not on your screen. This can be an easy waste of ammo as the targeting system frequently fails to adequately lead the targets. Furthermore, depending on where your Mobile Suit is facing while walking or flying, your shots could easily land in the scenery rather than in your target.

There is zero excuse for this severely lacking aiming system. There are several first person shooters on the PlayStation Portable that give the player proper manual aim and where it is possible to pull off headshots repeatedly. There are even FPS's on the Nintendo Dual Screen that let the player headshot hostiles with full manual aim. The original version of this game was on the Playstation Vita, a newer system than the NDS or PSP.

Unless the devs decide to update this game and improve it in a significant way, I cannot recommend this game. The frustration simply is not worth it at all.

I doubt the devs care at all since this game is just a quick prettied up remaster, but on the 0.00001% chance they would improve this game, here are my recommendations:
1. All Mobile Suits should have 6 Redeploys, regardless of how they are tuned.
2. Improve the allied/wingman AI.
3. Use the manual aim with computer aim assist system from Daemon X Machina or War Tech Fighters as a complete optional replacement to the current aiming system. Alternatively, give the player full manual aim and make it as snappy as either mentioned title.
4. Give players the ability to manually heal at least 3 times per level.
5. Replenish all player and allied AI health, armor, ammo, and Redeploys to 100% whenever a mission goes into a Continuing phase.
6. Ammo resupply crates should also heal the player and allied/wingman AI when used.

I give this game a 3/10 rating at best. If you insist on playing a Gundam action game on Steam, maybe check out Gundam Breaker 4. Alternatively, if you just want a mech action game regardless of the license, perhaps take a look at Daemon X Machina, Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon, War Tech Fighters, and Project Nimbus: Complete Edition.

Faithful adaption to both the show and the original PSP game. Yeah, it might go by pretty quick, but being able to play through the story events with the iconic music of the series then do free battles with said music AND making an Ace pilot that can pilot anything to victory? Such a fun little Gundam Arcade-style game to enjoy for 20+ hours.
