Hello, treasure seekers!

What an amazing week it’s been! Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the incredible support we've seen from all of you.

Since BALL x PIT revealed at Summer Game Fest, over 165,000 players have jumped into the demo! But it gets even better: the demo is now sitting at an amazing 96% positive rating, with more than 700 reviews on Steam, and we have already gathered over 116,000 wishlists! From the pit of our hearts, THANK YOU to everyone who played, shared their thoughts, and showed so much love for our little game.

The good news is, as we shared on X[x.com], we won’t be removing the demo after Steam Next Fest! So you can keep playing as much as you want until launch. AND we can also confirm that all your achievements and demo progress WILL carry over to the full release! (Sadly, it doesn’t work with Steam Deck…yet).

Also, we want you to know that much of your feedback and many of your suggestions will be reflected in the final game — in fact, some of them are! But, since the demo only includes the first level of the game, you cannot see them. But here is a little taste:

Highest speed possible?

I'm on Fast+8, and I'm wondering if anyone knows when the speed caps out? I want to assume +10 is probably where it ends, but I've been expecting the speed to max out each completion since +5 so..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Does anyone know?

Demo Update #1

Hi treasure seekers!

We hope you're all enjoying BALL x PIT demo!

We're rolling out a small patch for the demo, so make sure to update the game before your next session.

Patch Notes:

Projectiles and player now use 3D colliders, so being hitboxes match visuals a bit better. There will still be a bit of leniency as the player's hitbox will be much narrower than the character.
Add setting to disable swirling background in fuser ui
Let boss crown flash even if 'reduce flashing colors' is enabled
Adjust freeze damage color to be less cyan
Increase/decrease game speed is now remappable on the keyboard
Various Bug fixes

Announcing BALL x PIT

I'm excited to announce BALL x PIT, a ball bouncing, base building roguelite. I'm really bad at trying to explain what it is so here's the announcement video we premiered at Summer Game Fest.

This year will mark a decade since my first commercial release and BALL x PIT feels like the culmination of everything I've done up to this point. I'm really proud of it, I think it will be one of the highlights of my career.

This was my first time really leading a team, I'm lucky to have found some brilliant collaborators. Here's a list of the core team:

Sergio 'Bini' H. Alcelay[x.com] (3D Artist) - Created all of the 3d models for the base building portion of the game (buildings, environment, elevator)
Fernando Labarta Martin[x.com] (Technical Artist) - Created all of the shaders and visual effects, including in-game balls, particles, etc.
Mohammed Bakir Khawam[x.com] (Low Poly Pixel Artist) - Crafted all of the pixel art textures and level environments
Lisa Fasol[lisa-fasol.com] (Concept Artist) - Created concepts for the buildings, level environments, and enemies. They also created some of the pixel art for the prototype which I pitched to publishers, some of which is featured in the announcement video.
Luka Parascandalo[lukaparascandalo.com] (Pixel Artist) - Created all of the icons and portraits in the game, along with most of the UI and some of the enemies.
Amos Roddy[www.amosroddy.com] (Composer) - Composed on an amazing soundtrack for the game, some of which you can hear in the announcement video, plus a little sound design.

Devolver Digital is publishing it, who have been a dream to work with. The first indie game I ever purchased on Steam was Hotline Miami, exactly 12 years ago to the day (June 6th 2013), long before I ever thought I could do this for a living, so this feels like a real full circle moment. They've been hugely supportive of the game and have thrown a lot of their weight behind it, as evidenced by that unhinged video they put together for Summer Game Fest (which I love).

I'm hoping to write a few more posts about the development process of BALL x PIT as we get closer to launch, if I can find the time, but for now you can stay up to date through our official social channels and communities below.

themeing/art direction kinda..... meandering

like. everything about the ball itself makes no sense like youre a knight or whatever and balls just kinda.... come out of you? why is that? like the art direction is all fantasy RPG and no ball/arkanoid so youre just kinda fantasy guys And Theres Balls For Some Reason. it makes it hard to buy the vibe this game is selling...

All Evolutions (Demo)

Base items need to be level 3 in order to be evolved. You can fuse evolutions however you like, either with each other or other base items. DpL = Damage per Launch. Divided "Damage Dealt" with "Times Launched" from my Encyclopedia. Values rounded off, your mileage may vary. Also keep in mind that different balls have different cooldowns before they can be launched again. Assassin (13.3K DpL) = Iron + Ghost Blizzard (710 DpL) = Freeze + Lightning / Wind Bomb (1K DpL) = Burn + Iron Freez...

Earthquake balls evolutions suck

So all of Earthquake balls evolutions that I've tried (fair warning for this post: haven't managed to obtain the wind combination yet) add the following effect: Every few seconds, drops a puddle on the ground of [ball it's combined with]s element that moves up the screen until it hits an enemy at which point it applies the [combined element effect]. The problem is that when that happens the puddle destroys itself. It's REALLY bad, especially for something that can very easily miss everything if it just e...

you should be able to close out of the level up menu without picking something so you dont have to fill your inventory with trash
