Solid Snake, the most legendary mercenary on earth, trained as an elite soldier, can speak many languages, and has since twice stopped the world from nuclear annihilation still doesn't know how to use a card key and a gas mask at the same time.

4/10 game: Probably one of the most aggravating gameplay experiences I have ever experienced and that is comparing it to having played other games also from released near when this game was in 1998. Camera is far too zoomed in and at awkward angles to be useful; you are instead looking at the minimap the whole time. Guards will be alerted when you sneak up from behind to strangle. They will spawn ad infinitum and beeline right to where you are hiding despite the fact that you moved. Melee attacks don't kill and don't stun long enough to be useful. Rooms you enter will have gun sentries already pointed at the entrance and/or gun sentries and guards will not appear on you main camera until they have already seen you from offscreen. It's as if all of the game tech advancement from the PS1 went towards making the enemies more difficult/intelligent while snake still plays like he does from Metal Gear 1.

It otherwise has one of the best stories of any game then or now which is a shame because actually playing it is atrocious.

This is one of the all time greats. Kojima-san and his team created a masterpiece that will hopefully sustain for generations to come. needless to say this is a 12/10 game that everyone should play at least once.
