Meet the Burrowbuck, a peculiar horned hare that seems pulled straight from folklore. Skittish but clever, this elusive creature is quick to vanish when threatened, kicking up blinding dirt before burrowing out of sight in the blink of an eye.

I have a mentor but still need direction.

So playing PvE on The Island. Spent quite a bit of time so far building, doing some tames, and exploring. One of my mates has been playing for year and he has been a excellent source of information. I'm trying to figure most of this out without using guides (which I have taken a few peeks here and there) because its fun discovering stuff. That said are there any beginner friendly servers. He did mention that space for building on servers can be scarce due to amount of people. I'm going to finish my time ...

After it's installed, go back to your game setup screen and select 'Mod Settings'

Community Crunch 499: Threading the Needle: The Araneo Zips Back In!

You voted, you donated, and now it begins. Thanks to the incredible support shown during our Extra Life charity event, the first Extra Life TLC creature is almost ready to descend from its shadowy lair.

The Araneo is evolving into something far more dangerous. No longer content to skitter at ground level, these overgrown spiders have begun claiming the high ground, using web-lines to traverse elevated terrain and drop down on unsuspecting prey with unnerving precision.

We can’t wait to share more on what’s in store—but for now, just know that your impact is crawling its way into the ARK.

Lately I’ve noticed a kind of breakthrough evolution in the local population of Araneomorphus. Broodmother's ‘children’ have suddenly exploded in number, and they've also begun using their amazing amalgam of arachnidial abilities in alarming new ways.

These overgrown spiders have begun traversing high areas with their web-lines, and rappelling down them to ambush prey. They also shoot their webbing with a newly ruthless precision--a disorienting innovation that restricts their prey's ability to move, attack, and protect itself. Struck enough times, an entangled victim is as good as helpless.

Though the Araneo was once considered too small to be a serviceable mount, newer compact saddle designs have turned around opinion. Its narcotic venom turns out to be useful for tranquilizing potential tames. One popular tactic is to drop from above and wrap up a target creature in webbing before subduing them with a venomous bite.

Even if a taming attempt fails, your spider-mount can harvest the hardened silk from a downed target for a variety of uses. Araneo silk is an excellent insulator in warm-weather clothing, for example.

its just ark 1.7

its the same game, with map rehauls, creature revamps, building revamps and better building in general (there are some buildings that were just removed even though they were a huge portion of how ark functioned, like cables that could extent your power grid, or pipes that extended your watergrid, and allowed a "watergrid" to exist in the first place)

there are still gamebreaking bugs, there are still hilarious bugs, the creatures never grow a singular braincell so that didnt change, resources (specifically metal) just became a LOT rarer, maps that used to have around 7-8 nodes on metal, now have 1 if not 2 in the most well known spots

not to mention the DLC content creatures and loot being IN THE BASE GAME, but literally giving you a "BUY THIS DLC TO ACCESS THIS CONTENT" popup anytime you want to know what something is that you havent seen

and i cant hate on DLCS on their own, new creatures, new tools, new buildings, new map, all of it creates a unique experience, especially if they come with their own system adjustment, BUT and its a big but, dlcs UNIQUELY for creatures, is just not okay, they cannot justify a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 8 euro dlc for BEING ALLOWED ACCESS TO FIND AND TAME 1 CREATURE its insanity and greed beyond belief.

but to hopefully get away from that talk, lets talk about TRAITS, creatures now along with having to have: high level, good stat allocation AND the right gender, also have to worry about traits, and god do i hate it, like if they HAD to implement it in any way, i guess they did one of the most reasonable versions, but its still so annoying, since you cant change traits on a fully matured creature, nor can you swap traits from one species of dino onto another species of dino, like you cant take a trait that reduces weight of gathered resources from a fighting dino and slap it on a harvesting dino, since they are completely different creature types

i cant properly describe how disappointed i am that ASA is such a bald game

because the game was supposed to be good, ark survival evolved was a fantastic game that just ran a bit poorly in the engine it was made in with unoptimized files and coding, if wildcard and snail games werent so ♥♥♥♥ at creating games, ark could easily be one of the highest playercount based games, since the first dlcs they released for ASE were fantastic, sure they were rushed and buggy, but they were completely separate experiences from what ark "normally" was, and now i look at lost colony, aquatica, bobs tales and these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dlc creatures and i wonder what the hell happened, did they run out of creativity for the game and just stat slapping random bs in, or do they not care about even masquerading it anymore?

dont bother getting any product made by snailgames or wildcard, they are shameless, moneyhungry piranhas that ruin everything they touch

Early Access Review

I love Ark, both Evolved and Ascended. Massive open-world(s) with unique and beautiful dinos, base building, taming and breeding animals, boss fights and more. This would have been one of the best games ever in my opinion. But it's not unfortunately. The issues present in Evolved remain persistent in Ascended, but worse. Game performance in Ascended is horrendous and unplayable without having to input console commands to turn off image quality, an issue that was present in Evolved. Instead of focusing on optimization and game stability, the developers have no such intentions but to focus on releasing paid expansions, notably paid dlcs for exclusive dinos. While I'm not extremely upset as others have about that, it is simply the fact that I believe if they focused on polishing their game and prioritize re-releasing the previous maps from Evolved BEFORE they decided to even think about doing paid content, especially for dinos and animals, that I truly believe this game would have been the peak if it weren't for the greediness of the game studio and its parent company behind it.
