How to empty resource barrels
Question is simple - How to empty Resource Barrels?
When refining materials it yields different amounts of elements, ofcourse the most useful elements gets the lowest yield amount. After a while you get piles of barrels filled with some elements which are useles in such huge amounts. How can i empty a Barrel without using its content for creating or synthesizing as those barrels just pile up like garbage.
Tanks are only a temporary solution. For example: While filling 1 barrel of Iron, it fills aprox. 2-3 barrels of silicon, silicon is being barely used for building when iron is a massive requirement for almost everything.

Would be great if Refinery had an option to select which element to process in to a barrel and which should be destroyed. Or if it could simply destroy the element of which the output barrel is full instead of stopping the whole process and waiting for space being freed for that element.

Consider the materiels as Nuclear Waste. Sorry, the machinery for Deep Injection of nuclear waste hasnt arrived yet.

In the meantime, I havent tried this mod yet but it looks like it could help a lot, "3d printer x" It appears to have a disentegrator tool for removing objects.

On a nuclear level the refinery could just release unnecessery elemtns back into the atmosphere, they will find their way back to soil. The question is not about making the elemnts stop from existence, the question is how to get rid of all the piles of elements that are not being used.

i am using a simple method of getting rid of unused barrels:
i just pile them up into a pallet cage, use the forklift to lift it onto the cargo transporter. when i have 2 full pallets sitting on my transporter, i drive to the nearest crater and just dump my waste there.
works for misprinted things too.

I guess this is the only way, just to turn it into a waste. Would be good thou if devs did make an option to empty a resource barrel.
I wonder... is it possible to mod the barrels by addin such an option? Any of the modders know if its possible?

I'm sure it's possible. Let me see if I can write up some code and put it on workshop ;)

It's almost midnight here and I need some sleep, but I'll probably be able to finish this tomorrow.

Would be great to have this option. Thanks!

adding reactions to the refinery to get rid of some of the common culprits should be possible. Otherwise a special machine could be made to empty barrels (which would probably be more broadly compatible)

Or just a barrel which magically makes things disappear :steamhappy:. I'll release it tomorrow morning.
I know you do good modelling/texture work, PL. Got an idea for a goodlooking "void barrel"?

I could probably do somethign that looks a bit like a blender, you attach the barrel onto the top and hit the 'Empty Barrel' button and it empties the contents for you.

Could be. But right now it's the barrel itself that gets rid of items so you don't need to constantly swap them out and attach them to the blender.

here you go :)

Ironic that we go to Mars, set up a refinery, get waste byproducts, put them into barrels and then dump them back into the air or soil or the nearest crater. Humans suck.
Volonur 30 May, 2016 @ 7:58pm
Its not waste, so i dont see a moral problem with that.

there's no nature to destroy. therefore it is alright.
