LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!

Never before an ending managed to ruin and undo an otherwise good game for me quite like the one to Resident Evil Revelations 2. An improvement over the first Revelations game in every way, throughout its solid 15-hour campaign, it was slowly, but surely, marching into my personal survival horror Hall of Fame, along with titles like System Shock 2, Dead Space and The Evil Within Dilogy.

But then the ending happened... spoilers - for those "in the know", I got the "bad" ending, just because somewhere after the middle point of the game I made a split-second decision that looked to be either rather insignificant or at least not important enough to warrant much thought. The choice at the time made perfect sense, as the alternative was quite counterintuitive and contradicted a major plot point about one of the main characters. So off I was with that choice. However, not only that decision resulted in one of the main characters DYING soon thereafter - even though I honestly couldn't really see any direct, causal connection with the choice made - but that split-second decision also locked in a thoroughly depressing, AWFUL final ending that just spits in the player's face and can't be changed or altered in any way. And that terrible ending was still HOURS away.

I want make this crystal clear - I'm not a fan of multiple choice endings just before the grand finale, when one can just load the last save file and see all possible endings no matter what happened throughout the story (think Singularity or to a lesser extent, Deus Ex: Human Revolution). But again - the choice in the middle must be communicated clearly. Not necessarily through words, but at least implicitly, via notes, foreshadowing, well, with SOMETHING. Just having a random minor choice at roughly 70% of the game's runtime triggering a nonsensical "bad" ending and the death of TWO main characters you've got attached to is not a hidden genius move, its abysmal game design and writing.

And no, it's not Bioshock situation either, where harvesting even one Little Sister also locked in the bad ending (justifiably so). Believe me when I say, that the choice determining an OK ending (for a survival horror game) and a dark, depressingly hollow bad one is truly, truly MINOR and shouldn't have the consequences it has. And if, for some odd reason, that's what the game designers wanted to do, they should have - again - communicated this clearly. It could have been a suggestive line of dialogue, an expression on character's face, just something, give us something! You can't just pull out a seemingly meaningless "choice" out of nowhere in the penultimate chapter and then force the player to trudge all the way to the ending, which mockingly negates everything he tried to accomplish throughout the game. It stops being survival horror and instead becomes just pessimistic, depressing mess trying to "subvert the expectations" Ryan Johnson-style.

So, enough venting I suppose. The game itself is fine. My advice would be to forget spoilers and just read the plot summary on WIkipedia. Play the game, make the "right" decision and enjoy a fine survival horror title, with two additional episodes, if your heart so desires. So in this way I actually do recommend this. But otherwise, if you're unlucky, just going in blind, I have to warn you that that might result in you getting the "bad" ending, which, in my opinion, is one of the worst video game endings of all time.

Meh game. Not good but not bad either but I’m more leaning towards bad side. I hardly cared for the story, not a fan of episodic structure and story structure in general. It felt like resident evil made on a budget. I don’t like the environments and found it dull and boring. I understand that this was psvita title but it just doesn’t feel like resident evil to me at all. I rather play elite ball knowledge best game resident evil 6 over this, so you can’t blame my hate on the fact it’s more action focused since I don’t really mind action focused re games. I do prefer revelations 1 over this as I feel like it played more tight. Also the co-op is bit laughable but atleast it provides some fun (as long as your co-op player agrees not to be combative one, it helps with ammo etc.) atleast what’s available on PC, I think it might be the weakest title in the franchise
