Hey DATINGheads!

I'm very, VERY pleased to announce that a lot of changes have come to DATING OF THE FUTURE to make it work great with modern controllers, and work even BETTER on Steam Deck!

Here's a review of the changes:

DATING OF THE FUTURE now runs natively on Linux devices. This shouldn't change anything major, but it will definitely speed up boot times on Steam Deck!
DATING OF THE FUTURE now has an official controller layout for Steam Input that will allow you to maximise your DPS (DATINGs per second) with a number of great changes that build upon Ren'Py's existing controller support, such as the ability to use the right stick and secondary shoulder buttons to switch to a cursor control scheme on-the-fly, and the ability to skip with the right face button (that's B on Xbox-style face buttons).
Many menus in the game have been slightly tweaked under the hood to allow for far, FAR smoother control with the left stick and directional pad.
Also some bug and typo fixes but who cares

On Steam Deck in particular, any moments where the game requires keyboard input, the game will automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard for easy navigation. In combination with the Steam Deck's trackpads, playing DTF on Steam Deck feels just as good as it does with a mouse and keyboard.

*The game is not yet considered playable on Steam deck by Valve due to SteamOS not supporting certain Ren'Py accessibility features, however we're looking into solutions to this, since the game is in fact VERY playable. I have it open on my Steam Deck right now. I am looking at Lola's adorable little face.

Hopefully these changes will allow you to enjoy the game in new ways you didn't even previously think were possible. But I thought they were possible. I never stopped dreaming.

Good evening! DATING OF THE FUTURE 1.0.4 is now live, with some minor tweaks!

DATING OF THE FUTURE now runs on Ren'Py stable 8.5.0
A variety of tiny tweaks, including a handful of formatting errors being fixed, and new random window titles
A new CG has been added early on into the game, during Lola's introduction in the Heat Sink. Start a new game to check it out!

I hope you continue to enjoy your time playing the game! If you encounter any bugs, make sure to reach out via the DATING OF THE FUTURE Discord server[discord.gg] so you can publicly shame me in front of everyone. I've gotten away without any bug reports for too long, and they're starting to get antsy to see some blood.

In the last community post, I mentioned the fact that the soundtrack can be bought on Bandcamp[matthewoliver.bandcamp.com], but some people were curious about a Steam soundtrack release. While I'm not ruling it out in the future, I am not currently planning on an OST release via Steam. If you were holding out until then, I suggest getting it on Bandcamp and supporting the game's musician directly! Thank you for your understanding.

Technically, it's actually been out since release day, but I think we can all pretend for second that it just came out.

THE SOUNDTRACK IS ALSO ON YOUTUBE!

The soundtrack is also available to listen to on Youtube! If you haven't heard of it, it's a little video streaming service run by Google. If you haven't heard of Google, it's some website that received funding from the CIA and NSA during its inception in 1996 in order to optimise their intelligence collection efforts. I of course recognise it for allowing me to find Hex Maniac Rule 34.

Last bit of news for today: DATING OF THE FUTURE is now part of the TinyHat publishing family! You might recognise them for titles like Cloud Meadow and 8th Heaven. The game content of DATING OF THE FUTURE won't be changing or anything, but it's a very exciting turn of events, and you can look forward to seeing DATING OF THE FUTURE in more places than before!

Visual Novels as a genre aren't something I'm deeply familiar with, but when I do give them a chance it's usually in the name of finding well written porn. What this might mean to you may be different; to me it means the more I know who these people are, what they like and what is meaningful to them, the hotter it is. I like seeing real people really f♥ck and really cry and really smile. The character work is so effective and honest that you could honestly triple the length/frequency of the 'payoff' and it would still be well paced.
This would be missing the point of taking the x rated VN and using it as a springboard for solid worldbuilding and an inward look at the implications of basing yourself in such a work; only to then turn back around and deliver a super effective xVN with it.
Fantastic game I am lucky to have found. Will bully whoever I can into giving this a shot.
