DEADMETRO Development Update 17

In this update, we redesigned the appearance of the infected, especially the standard infected, which have been completely reworked. We also introduced profession-based infected variants to add more variety and better align with the world and story we want to present.

You can encounter these infected throughout the map. However, some variants have not yet been added to the game. They will be introduced in future updates alongside additional systems that will help create new gameplay experiences.

Lighting

We enhanced the visual presentation by bringing back a more natural color tone. Instead of relying on heavy color grading, we now use the colors of objects within the environment to shape the overall mood and atmosphere, resulting in a more realistic look. Visual authenticity is just as important to us as the gameplay experience.

Fixes

Increased item respawn time from 30 minutes to 2 hours
Reduced the number of infected by 30% on each map
Fixed weapon storage crates placed in the wrong direction that could not be opened
Improved Runner visibility by adjusting their colors and made it easier to set them on fire when attacking

some feedback for you

hi i played the version last updated locally at 11th december and its actually pretty cool :) its got a lot of potential, but can i check if these are bugs or if they are not in the game currently? - the map (m) shows a trader and extractor and workbench, but only the trader seems to exist (or be visible) - this was the one where i had to climb up a fire engine, and then jump through a window to get to him, where i could trade some ammo, but the extractor machine could not be found (not the workbench) ...

In this update, we improved infected behavior to feel more realistic by reworking their movement animations. Walkers in particular now move in a more aggressive and unsettling way, making encounters with them more challenging.

Point of Interest

Added a system that allows the infected to interact with the environment. While walking through the city, you may encounter some infected crouching and engaging in certain behaviors.

On Fire

Infected can now catch fire if they run through active flames. Be careful, a Hazmat Suit infected will explode if you shoot the gas tank on its back.

Alert

Causing more damage or making loud noises will attract a greater number of infected, making survival more difficult.

Movement

Infected movement is no longer strictly linear. We added a dispersion system, so when they attack, some infected will break off and rush in from different directions, surrounding the player.

Fix

Adjusted fire lighting and shadows in nighttime scenes
Fixed the building flickering that occurred at the edges of the player’s camera view
Increased flashlight brightness

my New Player assistance tips + questions

hi here are some tips for you if you are starting out: - if you have a watering can or water bottle, you can interact with water coolers to get a refill - if you drop an item on the ground for too long, it will despawn. (this is a shame and i think it would be good for items to not despawn so soon) - however, if you need wood for building a storage box, you can use an axe on any tree to get lots of wood. (im not sure if trees respawn, or if any other bladed weapon etc can cut trees, but an axe did - i o...
