I replayed the whole Arkham series once again in the beginning of this year and this review was due so here I go! Without Batman: Arkham Asylum, we wouldn't have gotten any of the Insomniac's Spider-Man games. That is the LEGACY which this game carries. Even years after release, Batman: Arkham Asylum still feels like the moment superhero games finally grew up. Before this, most superhero titles were decent at best, forgettable at worst. Rocksteady changed that completely.

It introduced Freeflow combat system. Even after 16 years, it feels incredibly satisfying. Punches feel heavy, counters flow smoothly, and when you build a long combo it genuinely feels like you’re Batman dismantling a room full of thugs. Stealth sections, Perching on gargoyles, the Detective Mode, gadgets, and level design make these encounters replayable and creative.

Overall this is the weakest of the Arkham games overall, boss fights are easily the weakest part, often relying on repetitive Titan enemy encounters instead of unique villain battles. Customization is also basically nonexistent but it is a master in atmosphere. The comic-book style and gothic nature of Arkham Asylum is what sets it apart from the other Arkham games, and if you're planning to play them, don't skip this one just for being the clunky original. Unfortunately, the game does suffer from being the first in-terms of gameplay as it can feel very clunky to play, but the story and aforementioned style carries it towards still being a great game.

Despite a few dated elements, Batman: Arkham Asylum remains one of the most atmospheric superhero games ever made. It might not have the scale of its sequels, but it absolutely nailed the feeling of being Batman and the horror of Arkham Asylum.

I think I would have loved this game if I had played it as a kid. The atmosphere, characters, and the whole arkham setting are still really cool.

But playing it now, the gameplay started to feel repetitive for me. The same stealth encounters and combat sections kept repeating over and over, which made the experience a bit tiring (torturing) after a while. i did enjoyed first couple of hours and ending of the game.

For me, arkham asylum is a 6/10 but I’m still looking forward to playing the sequels...
