Where do I even start with this game?

As someone who grew up with Resident Evil and especially Leon, this one hit different. Resident Evil 4 (OG) was the first game I ever played in my life, and I played it nonstop as a kid. So coming into this, I already had a strong connection to the franchise—and this game absolutely delivered.

I played 18.9 hours, finished the story twice, and went all the way to 100% completion, including an Insanity run with multiple challenges stacked together. It was tough, but also really satisfying.

Story & Characters

The story is solid. Nothing revolutionary, but it does what a Resident Evil story needs to do. It sits comfortably around a 7–8/10 in terms of writing, which is completely fine for this series.

Where the game really shines is the characters:

Grace is outstanding. Easily one of the best new characters in the franchise. Great performance, great writing, and just overall memorable.
Leon is Leon—and they handled him perfectly. His older design, personality, everything feels right.
The performances overall are top-tier. This game deserves recognition for that alone.
Gameplay

Gameplay is where this game becomes special.

The balance between horror and action is perfect
Playing as Grace feels closer to Resident Evil 2—tense, stressful, survival-focused
Playing as Leon feels like an evolved version of Resident Evil 4—more action, more control, but still grounded

The puzzles are well designed:

Not too hard
Not too easy
Never annoying

Everything just flows naturally.

Atmosphere & Design

This is one of the strongest parts of the game.

The Renwood Hotel was incredible
The Care Center stood out a lot
The Ark section and Raccoon City aftermath were exactly what you’d expect from Umbrella—dark, detailed, and immersive

The game is not the scariest thing ever made, but it builds tension and pressure extremely well, especially in Grace’s sections.

Technical Aspects
No crashes
No bugs (in my experience)
Performance was smooth
Graphics are excellent—the RE Engine continues to deliver
Sound design is top-tier
Music is very good (not as iconic as RE4 for me, but still around a 9/10)
Final Thoughts

I loved this game. I genuinely did.

It’s not perfect, and the story doesn’t reinvent the series, but everything else—from gameplay to characters to atmosphere—is done at such a high level that it’s hard not to respect what they achieved here.

I would recommend this to:

Resident Evil fans (this is a must-play)
Anyone who enjoys action-horror games
Players who liked RE2 Remake or RE4-style gameplay

Recommendation: Worth full price. If you’re unsure about horror games, wait for a sale—but it’s still absolutely worth trying.

One note: I 100% completed it and immediately uninstalled it—but that’s just me. I tend to move on fast after finishing everything. That doesn’t take anything away from the experience itself.

Resident Evil: Requiem is the latest 2026 game in the Resident Evil universe. In this game you primarily go back and forth between controlling 2 characters, Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft. As with the previous Resident Evil games, this game has you shooting zombies, solving puzzles, and surviving several tense stealth sections. The first playthrough of the game took around 12 hours to complete. Overall the game took approximately 30 hours to complete the achievements 100%.

+ You may switch between first person view and third person view at any time. I played both characters in first person view, even Leon Kennedy, despite the game recommending you to play his character in 3rd person view. The game is highly immersive.
+ There are many different environments to explore in this game, and they are all gorgeous. Whether you are looking at the wood grain on a railing right in front of you, or looking off hundreds of miles into the distance, everything in this game is super polished. It is evident many hours were spent fine tuning the environments in this game.
+ For me the game was extremely optimised. The game looked amazing on my computer. I was surprised how polished and smooth everything was. The game feels a bit "next gen" at times. I ran into zero bugs during my 30 hours playtime. No screen tearing, no hiccups, everything smooth as butter.
+ The sound design is perfect. From monsters walking on floorboards above you, chains rattling, zombies grunting, different kinds of footsteps pattering around, everything is fine tuned to perfection. The voice acting is professionally done and sounds exceptional.
+ All the enemy character models are stunning. Certain boss characters are extremely well designed. Zombie animations are super life like in the way they move around. The first time I ran into the female singing zombies I got goosebumps. The crawling lickers never looked better.
+ Many fun unlockables to play around with for beating the game under certain conditions.
+ Usually I do not enjoy stealth games, but the stealth sections in this game are fine tuned perfectly, and they are tense and scary.
+ Buckets of blood and gore. Admiring your blood splatterwork all over the walls after shooting up a bunch of zombies is always satisfying.

+/- The whole blood crafting mechanic was not needed, and didn't really make sense. Making items out of zombie blood? I could really take it or leave it.

- Army zombies with turrents? What game is this?
- Leon's crazy action sequences felt out of place. The game tries to appeal to too many audiences with different gameplay elements. I wish the game stuck with the more intimate creepy environments like the first half of the game. The Care Centre Sanatorium is one of the best areas of any Resident Evil game in my opinion. I wish the whole 10 hours of gaming was entirely in that area.
- The story is a bit basic. No real twists.
- The last boss was a bit of a letdown.

The game is amazing, but I immensely enjoyed the first half of the game more than the second half.
